light out

The light out light is coming on. I have checked for a bad light and all lights are working. Is there anything else that will make this light come on?

Have someone check to see if the brake lights are working (or backup next to a wall). If all bulbs are working one is about to go out. Like an early warning system.

The brake lights are working. If one is about the go I guess I'll have to wait and see which one it is. Thanks for the reply.

Dumb question.....How can it tell if a bulb is ABOUT to go out? I've never heard of such a thing. The indicator says lamp out not lamp about to go out.
Really not tryin' to sound like a wise guy but I've gotta raise the BS flag on this one.

The system is very sensitive to current. If the filament has a break that is intermittent due to vibrations the system detects the momentary current change. Trips the check lamp but the bulb still functions until the filament finally falls apart. It took three weeks for the brake light to finally fail after the check lamp tripped on my truck.

So is the indicator lamp on the dash intermittent along with the troubled bulb?
I read the other thread about this and what you say makes sense....I figured I'd get a schoolin'!...lol.

Yes. I would get a momentary flash with a audio ding.

Are your turn signals, left vs right, flashing at the same rate/speed?

This happened to me. The bulb was not out, but the dinging was driving me crazy. Changed the bulbs on one side and the problem was corrected. Aggravating changing those bulbs though.

Check to make sure there isn't one of the lamps out in the upper cab brake light cluster.

I've had to replace both of the gray light bar blocks in my truck. I used a little electrical grease on the sockets and it worked for a couple months, but ultimatly I replaced those circuit boards behind the tail light assembly.

As I was driving to work and back today the light out light would be on for a couple min. and then go out and than back on again. I'll check for a bad connection, but I won't be able to ontil the week end. Neil

Check the tail light sockets to see if they are melted or if the contacts in them are corroded, there is an upgraded socket for this as well..
