LED lighting

Since my truck didn't come with any kind of light for under the hood, I'm thinking of adding two rows of led lights. I saw the same thing on another web site I use to belong to many years ago when I owned a Toyota Tacoma.
Planning on removing the hood insulation since its falling down and parts of it is melting from touching the engine. They used the kind that have a sticky side on one side. I'm planning on using the kind that has a metal on the backside and attaching them to the inside hood frames. Do any of you know if I need a fuse between them and the battery? I found a switch to use so the come on when the hood is opened.

I'd put a fuse on it. Just makes good sense.

The size of fuse depends on the amperage drawn by your lights. The specs should be on the packaging. Shouldn't take much of a fuse for LEDs.

That is correct and very obvious! However, reading the first post would indicate that the OP is using this Toyota photograph to illustrate what he is attempting to duplicate on his Dodge. I like this idea of under hood lighting myself!

RamGazer,

If you don't mind, could you post up a few photographs and a materials list of items used to accomplish this?

That's cool. If you have a truck optioned for it you will have underhood lighting. If not, the plug for power is on the passenger side firewall. I'll have to go take a look. I have always wanted a light under the hood. Holding a flashlight is not fun when you need it at night.

I think mytruck has the harness but no light. It would behelpful. I'm tired of propping up the big spotlight to see what I' doing when in the garage

OP, does your truck have the insulation pad under the hood? If so, how do you plan to attach the lights? That Toyota shows the light strip stuck directly to the underside of the hood.
