Keys best way to get new ones?
Just got the 05 and only one key. Would be nice to have another remote entry too but a key will have to do for now.

If you only have one key, and it is the grey, chipped key- you have to go to the dealer.(Expensive if you only have one.) If it isn't chipped, go to a locksmith, e-bay, etc. The problem is that you have to have 2 chipped keys to program another on your own, so go to the dealer if it is chipped.

I just got back from home depot where i got some keys copied to find out that i have chipped keys. Of course the copies i had made are basically useless.
Does the dealer offer keys that are chipped, but not remote entry with the buttons? I need some keys that are completely waterproof so that i can go swimming, biking, running, ect.
Any good solution besides a hide a key or an external lock box or tool box?

Did some research. Seems like everyone here is talking about how you need to have 2 keys to program the truck to allow additional ones.
I talked to a local locksmith who told me he is waiting for equipment that will allow him to clone a key.(for our model make year) Meaning that you only need to have one key, instead of 2 in order to make additional ones.
This guy said he will be charging about $45 for the blank, cutting and programming/cloning. He is about 2-3 weeks from getting the equipment.
The good news here is that if you loose a key, you can cut the dealer prices out of the equation, and you can have an infinite number of keys made.
If you program the truck to allow more new transponder codes, (with the 2 origionals) then the limit was 8 keys in my user manual anyways.
The good news for me was that the generic transponder blanks ARE supposedly waterproof, which I need for my activities.
The big problem that i had with the non-transponder keys i had made last night is that they set off the car alarm when you open the door. I thought i would be able to use them as hide-a-keys, but with the alarm going off, i think i oughta just throw them away.
