Key won't turn in ignition. Please help.

I went to leave yesterday and the key would go in the ignition but would not turn. I have never had issues before. At the time the steering wheel was not locked, I tried all the common things- tap on key, tap on top of gear shift(automatic),rock truck, turn steering wheel(which end up locking). I finally took the steeering wheel off and dissaembled the electronic ignition switch and I got it to come out. Now the tumbler moves fine out of the housing and the plastic peice with the steering lock pin seems fine, nut if I put them back in the key won't turn until I fight with it to get it out.

Anyone have ideas? I am leaning towards the plastic piece and steering lock pin , the tumbler out of the column I can turn with two fingers.

2007 Dodge Ram Megacab 4wd 5.9/auto
Thanks for the help

My Dodge van does this ALL THE TIME. It's been squirted with all sorts of sprays and goops and has also had the whole cylinder replaced. it still does it. The only sure thing it to tap it with the base of a closed fist, like your tapping the key further into the hole.

I tried that, also tried an older metal key without the remote on the end. Tapped it with a rubber mallet and still would not move.

This happened to me on the side of a hill with a 50 ft' log hooked on. I had to remove the housing around my steering column and there was a small piece of metal that had broke and I just removed the whole piece. Not to difficult to fix.
