Key FOB questions for an 04 and 08

Afternoon, DTR.

So, while at the dock this afternoon, my wife accidentally dropped both of our fobs in the water (along with a cell phone, imagine that...)

I still have one fob for each truck. Mine is the old style with just the buttons, hers is on the key itself.

My question: Do I need to buy two new fobs for each truck, or can I buy an un-programmed one for mine, and a blank key/fob for hers? Can I reprogram them myself?

Thanks!

i was told by the dealer that i could use the key fobs from my old 03 truck which was in a fire, with the newer truck i got now, an 04.
the fobs look the same.if you need the factory fobs, pm me and you can have one of mine.the dealer can program them for you, not sure if you can do it your self or not, i know that i could program a thrid key my self, but not a second key, in which i had to do with the 03 truck cause when i bought it, it only had one fob, and one key. might be the same for the fobs, not sure though.i bought a remote starter, so i'm not using the fobs anymore, but i will keep one for back up.

According to my user manual for my 2005, you can program additions fobs up to a maximum of four if you have one good one. If you were able to rescue the keys right away, remove batteries and try putting them in a sealed container with a few packets of silica dissicant. You know those paks that come in lots of things including jerky that say do not eat. That can often save electronic things. Also a good blast of electrical cleaner like for computer motherboards can help dry out and prevent corrosion from starting.

OK totally misunder stood what you meant and had to re do all of this.

If you get new fobs you can reprogram from the ones you have.

With the Sentry key you need two working keys to program a third, otherwise you need the starscan.

Not sure if you truck has sentry key if not, then any pre 06 fob can be programmed off of one original.

The 08 your gonna have to get star scanned to make the sentry key work and they do the fob programs while that takes place.

MSgt, no dice. I was not there, and the current there probably has them to Savannah by now.

We'll see what happens.
