Key FOB for 2006 CTD

I bought an '06 CTD used with 21000 miles on it and it only came with 1 key. I found 1 on e-bay that is just like the key that i have, but how do i know if it will work for my truck? I'm thinking the fob part could be re-programmed but the key part istself is used and already cut for the vehicle it was used on.

Your going to have to get a key programed from the dealer.....You need to good keys to program them yourself.
You can look around Ebay for a key to get programed for less than a dealer, but as far aas I know, it will have to be done at the dealer and a locksmith can cut it for you.
If you get it off Ebay, the FCC and IC code must match (found on the back of the key fob).
The keys are pricey..
You can get the chipped keys w/o the buttons, but the security won't work with it. They are cheap and work. But you still need two programed keys from the get go to make them work.
Hope this helps.

I bought a new key/fob (cut and programmed) from the dealership for $150CAD.
As far as buying a used one off e-bay...it says right in my owners manual that once a new key/fob is programmed it can't be reprogrammed for another truck.

I got one off of e-bay and it works. But you must have 2 factory keys to program it. Paid $19 w/shipping.

You can buy the sentry key (rubber grey key) for cheap from the dealership, I bought some for $40CAD each, cut and programmed (25 for the blank and 15 for the cut and program)
