Installed the cruise control switches today
I bought a new 2007 2500 diesel this past Saturday - my first diesel truck. Thanks to the info on this forum I was able go get functioning cruise control today. The left & right steering wheel switches were $56 at my dealer and the instructions in the other threads told me just how to do it.
Basically you turn the wheel 90 deg, disconnect the batteries, unbolt 2 bolts behind the steering wheel to detach the air bag, then one screw holds on each switch. The wiring is already there. No programming necessary on my 6 speed manual. It works perfectly.
I did lean WAY over to the right the first time I turned the key on just in case the airbag was going to explode, lol.

This works well for the manuals, not so well for the autos. I bought the switches as well and thought it would be a plug and play deal right off the back but I was a little mistaken.
If I hit my switches on the wheel it will indicate on/off on the dash but nothing happens. According to the dealer I need a couple of parts to make it work. A vaccum harness, a pump, a cable and some other odds and ends. Total for all the parts is going to cost me $206.xx and some odd change. I'll get it tooken care of one day, right after I keep buying other stuff for my truck.

I put the switches on my truck today, too. Its an 06 2500 ST Automatic trans with manual everything and no real luxuries. Took 5 mins to install and worked perfect. Thanks to everyone who posted tips and help.
I dont know why the dealers say its missing vacuum pumps and cables and installing the switches will not give you cruise control. Common story from them.
They also told me I couldnt install fog lights without a crazy harness and adding relays, fuses.... Proved them wrong, thanks to the people here.
Also told me my old truck didnt have remote keyless entry, but could install an aftermarket one for me. Hopped up on ebay and bought a module and two fobs- 15 mins later I was remotely unlocking my doors!
Goofballs.
