No injector issues on my 2004,I have around 42,000 miles on my truck.Since new I changed the factory fuel filter every 5,000 miles along with the oil.I had the Fass fuel system (150 gph) installed around 18,000 miles,I change both filters every 10,000 miles on the fass, and have used Stanadyne PF and primrose 405-409 fuel treaments since new with a shot of Marvel mystery oil.I also use seafoam injector cleaner (16 oz) every 5,000 miles,so far so good. coobie

I changed the oil ,fuel filters every 3K miles on the 04.5 and every tank of fuel had PS / MM mix ...unfortunately I was blessed with a crankcase full of fuel from a dropped injector and the sad part of it is that it happened to me twice several weeks apart.

Somewhat dirty filters clean and filter better then new ones. Not saying thats a issue for you but changing the fuel filter every 3k without a issue is way overkill.Just my 02 worth.

Changing your oil every 3k is way over kill too! IMO

That's a lot of wasted oil.

Overkill or not the point was that injectors do fail for other reasons , proper maintenance whether it be excessive or not wasn't the issue of my failed injectors.

Your right about 3k oil changes. As far as overkill every 3k on a fuel filter it just might be a issue.Changing it that soon and two failed injectors just might be the reason.Let a filter do its job as it gets more efficent as it traps particulate. It was just a thought when I read the post. Then again it just might have been two bad injectors.Sometimes a answer for a issue is right in front glaring at you.As I said just a thought.

Remember also, the latest POLL RESULTS :

80% of 3rd Gen trucks did NOT have any injector issues

Of the 20% that DID -

70% were running pressure boxes

So, 1 in 5 had injector issues BUT 70% of those 1 in 5 were running pressure boxes.
Form those results, if that 70% did NOT run a pressure box then maybe the results would be 1 in 10 have injector issues. Out of that number, how many FIXED the tank vent issue? How many run cleaners/additives?

has anyone actually received a letter from DC stating what fuel filter we are to be using? Or is it only well informed people like yourselves that know about the filter change.

I don't think anyone will get a letter. The DC assumption will be that if you are maintaining your vehicle properly (read dealer service) that you will automatically get the 7 mike filter whether you know it or not. The benefit of the info on the forum is that you know that you need it and can make the adjustment ASAP. I won't hold my breath for the letter, I'll just keep listening to the experiences (good and bad) that others share in these forum communities and act accordingly.

and that's why I here learning . but from a warranty stand point of view unless DC sends an offical statement that I have to use a 7 micro filter the injector issue will continue. I will get the right filter to hopefully prevent down time, but who knows for sure.

The best PROTECTION one can do for now on a factory warranty is:

1 - Get the Fleetgurad 7 micron filter
2 - Fix the tank vent issue
3 - Run some additives (power service, marvel, etc)
4 - If running a power box make sure it does not add too much fuel pressure

I bought FOUR fuel filters from Geno's back when.Thouight I'd keep them on hasnd.Still have THREE of them.If I followed the maintance book It would be 75k before I'd get to a 7 micron filter.

Ok so I stopped in my dealer a couple weeks ago and picked up a new fuel filter but haven't put it in yet. That was before I started reading all these threads. So how do I know if I got a new 7micron or if its an old one the parts dept has left sitting on the shelf? Anybody know the part number differences?

Also, ive had the recall notice for the tank vents for awhile but havent taken the time to take it in and have it fixed. Is it difficult to add some hose and maybe a filter? I'd rather just do it myself so i know its right as long as it isn't that hard.

Pretty sure this is the thread you are talking about:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=89005

I only have 1200 miles on my truck, so I really have no input on this thread.

But I am wondering what the injector tick sounds like? I think I might have it... I just thought it was deisel, as this is my first diesel truck. Sorry to hijack the thread...
