Idiot light???
I had a thermostat go bad and my "check engine" light came on. The truck is now fixed but the light remains on. How do I get rid of it? Thanks

Turn the key to the 'on' position, then off, then on, then off, then on and leave it in the on position. At no point during this proceedure, turn the engine on. (that is turn it to the 'on' position 3 times in 3 seconds or so, leaving it in the 'on' position to read the codes)
The codes will appear in the odometer and end with P-Done. Write them down and bring them back here.
To clear codes, you could go to autozone and they may clear them, or the dealer, or you can buy something to do it. But..... after a few engine starts with everything running well (nothing to set a code), the light will turn off.

P0514 refers to a problem with the battery temperature sensor circuit. I'm not familiar with the diagnostics for that one, but I've seen it quite often on here regarding 3rd gen trucks. I believe the code sets in error, and there may be new software to correct it.
