I want to thank everyone here, I purchased my first CTD this past weekend!!

After everyone here answered all of my questions and Dodge came out with 0% financing I flew to Las Vegas Saturday morning to take delivery of my 2006 SLT Mega Cab 3500 4X4 and then drove it back to Phoenix. This is my first diesel truck and I love it. Vegas was the only place that had the options I wanted and the color, Silver.

This site is fantastic and really helped me make my decision. Thanks to everyone for answering my questions and offering advice. It was very helpful.

On the drive back I set the cruise @ 73mph and according to the overhead mpg I was @18.5. I have not done the hand calculations yet but when I fill it up I'll figure out what the actual was, but I will say I used exactly 1/2 tank from Las Vegas to Phoenix . It was 334 miles. That's pretty impressive.

Thanks Everyone!!

Congratulations! I was in the same boat as you about 2 years ago. I love my truck. As someone else said you'll probably never want to be without a diesel again. Pics.

I just got home and it's dark so I'll take some pics in the am. I can't stop looking at it. It's big, but not so big where I'm having trouble parking it or driving around. I expected it to be much harder to drive and park. I understand why people won't go back to gas. I still have my 1500 QC Hemi (putting in the auto trader on Wednesday) and drove it to the store. It's fun to drive, but nothing like the CTD. I can't wait to tow with it. How many miles should I have on it before towing?

With the 0% for 72 they took away the rebate but I ended up @ 39,735 +TTL. They had several dealer add on's including side steps, wheel locks, bed liner, lo-jack, tint, and something they called Desert Paint Protection. With all add on's the sticker was $50,231 so I was pretty happy with what I got. Before the add on's the MSRP was 47 and change. I know some folks have received a better deal but this was the exact one I wanted and the only place in the Western United States that had it. Plus I got 0% for 72 which was nice.

The owners manual says, "during the first 500 miles your new vehicle is driven, do not tow a trailer". "Limit your speed to 50mph during the first 500 miles of towing".
It also says: " Because of the construction of the Cummins Diesel engine, engine run-in is enhanced by loaded operating conditions which allow the engine parts to achieve final finish and fit during the first 6,000 miles".

Decide for yourself what all that means.

I'm at 513 (was 18 miles when I picked it up on Saturday). It sounds like at 501 miles you can tow but keep it under 50 until you hit 1K and then drop the hammer?

I love how clear everything is. Thanks for the info.

Mine had around 350 miles when I towed my trailer. I have just under 20k now, mostly towing. The fuel mileage jumped up quite a bit at around 10k, and looks like it continues to go up. Supposedly, the CTD breaks in around 15-20k, and I think that towing helps if fuel mileage is any indication.

I haven't had any problems yet, but I found that the fuel filter needs to be changed more frequently than the DC recommended interval.
