I'll shoot you an email tonight or first thing in the am. Got your PM as well. It may be too late to call when I'm all cleaned up from the following debacle . . .
I've been fighting with the ujoints and ball joints since my last post. The driver's axle joint is done, but man did that take some work. I've got the passenger's axle out, but haven't started on that yet. I was trying to get the passenger's side ball joints out, and my new harbor freight ball joint press bent severely, but no movement out of the ball joints. I'm at a loss on the ball joints now. Help?

Looks like it went well for you, I hope the dealer has as good a time with mine, they are doing front drivers side tomorrow. I hope they know what they are in for, patience seems to also play a large role in not trying too fast and breaking expensive parts in the process.

Great looking tool who makes it? Wish I had it on a few hub bearings I had to change. I just used Mopar penetrating oil and soak it overnight next morning a few hits with 5lb brass hammer and it came off. Lucky I quess, Souther Cal corrosion not as bad as Mid west.

It's an OTC press.

BMH95, I did my ball joints already. I just used the ball joint removal/install tool that I rented for Free from AutoZone. It did take a little extra work to get them out & back in. Since we ended up using the cutting torch to cut the top ball joint to remove the knuckle since the bearing hub wouldn't come out, it made it easier to remove the upper ball joint. Installation was a little more challanging. Using a 1/2" steel plate & the ball joint tool we're able to get the upper installed with a 5# sledge. The lower took the 10ton jack + 5# sledge to get that installed. That was all with grease to assist with the install.
My 4 hour u-joint install has turned into a 7+hr removal and all I have installed so far is the ball joints.

Well I was just finishing up the u-joint on the passenger side, and guess what! The fourth cap on the Precision 464 u joint HAS NO SNAP RING GROOVE. Now I have to go buy another freakin ujoint for a snap ring. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The ball joints still won't move a hair.

Nice write-up! I managed to get mine out without a puller, but like you said before, tools are the key on this one. I used an air hammer, about a whole can of PB Blaster, a BFSledge, sacraficial socket, and several colorful metaphores, but managed not to separate any of the hub bearings and used plenty of anti-seize on reassembly.

To get the ball-joints out, go rent the free kit from auto zone, crank down on the ball joint until it is tight, then hit the shaft on the puller with a 5# hammer, similar to how you did the hubs. The key is to get the preasure on them and use the hammer to release the preasure.
I've had this bad feeling for about a week that I have ball-joints going. Not looking forward to it.

Thanks for the hammer on the shaft tip. That worked. I already have the AutoZone tool, and had bent mine first. I didn't need to use nearly the force I had been when I tried your method. I'm an idiot.
Then I put the whole dang thing back together before realizing the axle had to go in first! IDIOT!!
Then my wife came home with the new ujoint from Napa, to replace the one rock auto sent that had one cap with no snap ring groove. It wasn't a precision 464 like I asked for . . . it was a Napa performance 464. Guess what, IT DOESN'T FIT INTO THE YOKE. I'm about ready to strangle a puppy at this point.

yes i made my own puller out of c channel i am all to familiar with this set up. it is a pita but next time which will be soon due to ball joints will be a breeze anti seize the blank out of them and they will come also the turning the wheel set up works great as well with the puller on like you said there is some popping mine sounded like a 22 going off in my garage.
