Actually njhonker the factory recommended OCI on these engines is 15,000 miles. That's with no bypass filtration and using dino oil. I doubt anybody around here runs their truck like that but these engines can handle it. But most of us spending 40K on a truck figure fresh oil every 5 or 10k miles is just cheap insurance.

why drain the fuel filter weekly, or at any periodic interval? There is a "water in fuel" indicator light that tells you when you need to drain it. That's what it's there for. Waste of time and expensive fuel, IMO. I change all my fluids, filters, etc at the factory recommended intervals. Oil at 7500. The 15000 interval is for operating conditions that few people encounter.

A few pennies of fuel down the drain once a month is nothing. If you're doing everything else by the book you might as well dump some fuel outta there every now and then. It's part of the routine maintinence in your manual to drain it even if the light hasn't come on. Look it up. Besides that dash warning lights are for dummys who never check belts, hoses, oil etc and typically come on after damage has been done.
