How much does my truck weigh?
Hey guys, I need just close estimate. Reason being is, I have a lift at my shop and is rated for 8K lbs.
Sometimes you hear this or that, on how much my truck wieghs, so figured would ask the experts.
My truck:
'03 CTD, DRW, QC, LB, 2WD, 6 speed
I was thinking it was in the 7K lb range, but would like to know for sure.
Thanks guys

Cool...so really, minus 4 people, truck goes in at @ 6600-7000LBS, depending on how much those 4 people weigh. SO, basically, my truck is not anywhere near 8K lbs.
Thats good to know.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how much 4WD, and/or an automatic adds to it? Reason I say that is, I have a few friends with trucks, some are 4wd, and would be nice to know if it is safe to put one on my lift.
Thanks for reply!

notice his is NOT A DUALLY with a transmission that in itself with NO fluid is 498 lbs (205 lbs heavier than the automatic tranny). better take it to a CAT scale or farm scale and weigh it. better safe than sorry.

according to the above pdf file, a quad cab dually with long bed and manual transmission curb weight is 7549lbs. 8k lift is pushing it with only 500lbs to play with.

How did you know his doesn't have a manual tranny?

measured weight is always more cause of a hitch installed, a full tank of fuel (mfg's only install 5 gallons of fuel to get curb weight), possbily larger tires, mud caked up under the cab/bed, bed tool box, diaper bag in the back of the cab, car seats, center console full of skoal cans and Chris Ledux cd's, a few beer cans under the seat. etc. lol

I still feel that going by the above file, at @ 7500 lbs, Im still OK. I don't have any extras on teh truck, aside from a toolbox in the bed..toolbox weights probaly 50-60 lbs (aluminum), and I only have jumper cables, tow strap...probaly another 50-60 lbs of stuff in there. Fuel tank is close to empty..so maybe I am 7800 lbs give or take. So, Im still under the 8k limit, and you have to think that 8K is under limit as well, as the lift can probaly handle more than that. Have you EVER heard of anyone overestimate something like this, when it comes to lawsuits/personal injury these days?
I understand what you are saying...7500Lb rig in the air, gonna be working under it, why risk it, because obivously, comes crashing down, there is no injury..it's instant death.
I just feel safe that truck is under 8K lbs total, and lift is probaly underestimated as well, so probaly have a 300-500 lb cushion, AND, what is probaly the limit on the lift is the hydraulics anyways, and not the actual structure. So, if it can lift it, hydraulics that is, then the structure is good to go.
Now, knowing this, is probaly good idea thinking that a 4wd is not gonna be able to hop up on my lift.

i never said he had an automatic. all I was referring to was your 500lb transmission in reference to his non cast iron transmission. I only used it as a reference with the NV transmission being 498 lbs and 205lbs heavier than an auto alone.

hyraulics on this one held up too but the structure failed. this is a bad deal but i am one for being overly safe when lifting a truck that weighs as much as ours does.

LOL! I gotcha. Still pretty sure my truck is OK...I just went out to my truck, and took inventory...since 2wd, no mud stuck under truck...did have a CD case, and a car seat for my son, but that was really about it...and tank almost empty, so probaly have @ 7 or so gallons in teh tank...

Fair enough...I will stop by and check it out...in the meantime, I went ahead and put truck on lift, and lifted it off ground. Hydraulics seem to work just fine, so went ahead and lifted it all the way up...truck was stable on lift once I got the arms and truck centered, which did a take a little bit.
Normally, on a passenger car, I pull up and place front doors RIGHT behind the lift columns. On the truck, I had to pull up far enough to where front doors were actually in FRONT of teh lift colums.
