How many qts I need EXACTLY of Rotella for oil change?

I've got a 24" 3/8" drive extension I use. I also use the Lisle brand filter removal tool. Drop the oil, pull the filter, put new filter back on, replace drain plug, grease front end, add oil.

I use the extension from the bottom, break the filter loose and then put a plastic bag (a wally world bag or zip lock) around the filter and remove it by hand. the bag will catch the small amount of oil that will drain down the side of the filter.

Crawl under with a 3/8" extension wratchet & gallon zip lock, break it loose with Cap wrench, take off wrench & then slide zip lock up over it and then just remove by hand. No drips, no spills! Double check that filter gasket came off with filter.
I use 3 Gallons Delo 400 15w/40 bought from Costco in 6 Gallon box + Fleetguard Stratapore Premium Oil Filter LF16035 + Fleetguard's new 7 micron Premium Fuel Filter FS19800E. You can get filters from Genosgarage.com

You can also get filters from fleetfilters.com. Not sure if they advertise here, but they have good quality products, good delivery, and good prices. There's a deal that gives you a kit with oil filters, fuel filters and an air filter that covers you for a while. One shipping charge for the whole thing.

All of the 3rd gens take 12 quarts. If a dealer tells you 13 they are wrong.
If you are adding more than 12 quarts then you are overfilling no matter what the dipstick says.
Just fill it up with 12 and if its not leaking then your good to go....nevermind what the dipstick says.

Interesting improvements Cummins has made. Both my '95 and my '03 take 11 quarts w/ filter (from the manual & empirically). I envy you that don't have that stray quart sitting around!

I just dump a quart in the oil filter and then the other 11 in the crankcase and call it done. Oil pressure isn't to high, truck runs good, and I figure that if my truck starts burning oil then it can burn 2 quarts before I need to add any instead of just one.

12 qts. Also known as 3 gallons. Dont let the dealership change your oil, they dont tighten the filter. Or in my case the filter, or the pan plug. When i did mine for the 2nd time, both the filter and plug were ALMOST hand tight.
