the floor console needs to come out. there are a few screws under it, and i am pretty sure the radio dash bezel needs to come off partially to clear the cubby. in this picture you can see one of the screws in the bottom cubby

Here's how...
I presume you have a manual transmission. The instructions may be similar on an auto, I wouldn't know.
You have to start with the cupholder plate that sits on the floor. The two shifters come through it. Remove the rubber cupholder inserts (they just pull out). This will expose some screws, which are next to remove. Also pull up on the shifter boots so you can remove the plastic tray around them while leaving the boots on the shifters.
This will expose some screws down under the panel you're interested in removing. Removing THOSE will enable the panel to be removed. It's a snap-fit plus screws, so after the screws are removed you have to muscle it pretty hard. Carefully examine how it snaps into the upper piece so you don't pull in the wrong direction and break something (I almost did, by misunderstanding how they fit together at first).
BTW, this is also how you get to the radio. You just keep working "up", removing parts and panels until you get to the one holding the radio.
Hope this helps!

He claimed to have an 06 in his original message. I definitely have an 06 and replaced the sound system myself, so I am quite certain this is how to do it [grin]. The only question is whether he has a manual transmission like I do. If not, the lowest pieces will be slightly different but by the time he gets into the dash itself things should be the same.
