Home made running boards?
Just got a new truck the other day, 4x4 CnC. Reg Cab.
I've been lookin at boards n steps ect...
Not findin exactly what I want, so thinkin of makein my own.
Anybody make thier own?
Thinkin of useing 2" pipe, with the weldon elbows, painted black, maybe get the bed liner coating sprayed on them, for the edge. Mount this to the frame of the truck, maybe connect it to the flatbed's tool box.
Use stainless steel, maybe diamond pattern for the treads and riser. Basicly have a 90 degree turn up, within an inch or so of the cab.
Bolt the stainless to the pipe, resessed below the pipe 1/2 " or so.
Step maybe 6" wide?
Hang below cab door bottom 4" ? ?
Use the molded black rubber mud guards on the front fenders.
Tool boxes to cover the back.
Any thoughts would be apperciated.

My dad and I made these outta 3" on my 2000. 2" just looked to small to me. Had two pieces of 2" runnning to the frame for mounting. They held the entire weight of the truck without bending! Waiting to build a new set for the 05

Wow! Cool. Good lookin Dodge. You and your Dad make your front bumper?
Just the line of thought I was looking for.
3" looks good. sch. 40 pipe?
Thought about adding a 4" deep box to the under side of the step, make it out of galv. c-channel, the style like metal buildings use for garage door frames. let the stainless step act as the lid.
Thinking of the way a boats compartments are sealed.
Put a lock/latch of some sort at the rear of the step accessed through the tool box.
Guess the box could go under the cab too, maybe up to 6 or 8 inches.
If I could weld good enough, guess the pipe frame could be used for compressed air storage, from a mini onboard tire inflater. Heh or storage for a fishin rod, accessed from the tool box lid.

The bumper was given to me. The pipe was indeed the heavy stuff, we did add the wings to the headache rack, and then my foolish self went and traded it in on my 05. Been smacking myself ever since! You could use the steps as air tanks, I have seen that.
