The 235/80-17 needs a 6in to 7.5in rim width, which is narrower than the stock 8in width for the trucks using the 265/70-17.

I'd read the tread in on this forum about michelin tires before I went and bought a set. After the factory michelins are replaced on mine I'll never own another set.

Michelin has a LTX A/S in 265/70/17 size that will fit your rim. It runs just as good and long as the M/S.

A lot of people have the same opinion as the prior poster did. You have to make Michelin stand behind the tire if it gives you problems. The mount and Balance is the most important. Get the front end alligned with the new tires and if you get a pull to the right or left (broken belt) take it back. Thats about the most common thing with the tires. I had a Hope at 40mph in the rear. Had two bad tires. Replaced with new ones.. If your going to hot rod the diesel and do burn outs or race the truck, its not worth it, just put some rags on there.

I am a Deputy in a remote area in northern Arizona. I had a set of the Silent Armors on my patrol vehicle (Chevy Tahoe) and they were the best tires I have had out here. I put a set on my 2005 Quad Cab, but do not have many miles on them yet. While I had them on my Tahoe they lasted longer than any other tire I have used (I drive a lot on dirt/gravel roads). They have very good manners in highway driving and handle remarkably well in snow and ice. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone for a SUV or truck.

I just bought a set of SilentArmors. They are Goodyear Wrangler ProGrade SilentArmors. I got them with the Michelin Cracking sidewall warrenty. If you go to Americas/Discount Tires, they can trade you and give you a good deal on the new tires. I only had like 5/32's left on my original Michelins, so the only gave me 30% for them.
I went up to 285/70/17. My out the door cost (tire, mounting, balancing, and tax) was $109.00 per tire or $436 for all 4.
I have only had them for about 3 weeks. First impression is that they do ride nice. I have not had them offroad yet, but with the more aggressive tire pattern I think they will do well. They burn out easier then stock, but they seem to hold better in rain then stock. Very quiet tire, which I was concerned about.

The Michelin A/S do last forever and are great for dry pavement only.
Useless for everything else.
I think I will try the Silent Armour next.

Thanx for the review Wolf...I have been waiting for comments on these tires.
The only bad thing I have read about them on Tirerac is that they knock the crap out of your fuel economy?
Any comments?

The LTX A/S is a marginal highway tire, unless tire life is more important than 'all season traction'. Mine did ok in snow, but were worthless on frost, much less ice. They were also marginal in rain, and wet grass could be embarrasing. These trucks really need tires with more pronounced shoulder lugs, siping, etc., if they're to be used 'all season'.

Wow! Lot's more replies and opinions here then I was expected to get! Thanks guys!

The truck came with Michelin's, and while I have had worse tires, I have also had better. NO real problems with them, just wasn't impressed overall with the traction and such. I'm not really sold on getting another set of them-would rather try something else.

Anything I can get through Tirerack is fabulous too, as I can pick them up from them just a few minutes from work and save shipping costs.

The Silent Armor's are sounding great! Tirerack has them set at 165/tire...huntram-where did you find them for less?

The best price online for the 285/70/17's was from http://www.tiresmadeeasy.com/. Their price is $167.64. Tire Rack is $178.00 for the same tire.
I went to America's Tire in our town. As I said, I got 30% back on my Michelins because of the sidewall cracking. I only had 5/32 tread left, But I felt 30% was better then nothing.
In summery:
I got 30% off of America's Tire regular price of the Michelins! Then when he tried to match Tires made easy price, because it was a warrenty issue, the computer would not let him do a match. So to make a customer happy, he took off the mounting charge, I said still not enough, So he also took off $40.00 per tire.

So I got 30% off the higher list price of the Michelins, No mounting charge, and $40.00 per tire.
The OTD cost ended up being $109.00 per tire, and remember this is for the larger 285's.

Another vote for Silent Armour. I do not have many miles, but they perform well on & off rd.. Quit as the street Wranglers it came with, but bite well in sand & dirt. They are Kevlar, which makes them quiter, cooler running & stonger. They are suppose to handle all conditions extremely well, rated excellenbt by Consumer report.
50k mileage warranty. They have an HD commercial variant for more $$.
Second vote BFG A/T KO. Well known & like on this site.

Go to tire rack and check the reviews of just the F250's/350 and dodge 2500's/3500's
Diesel's if you can... The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo seems to be a more favored tire. I can care less how a SUV or a little truck does with a tire. At 7200 + Lbs and if towing is what I want to read.

You can filter the reviews by "Filter by Miles Driven on tire" Pick 30-50K and see what ya get for both the Silent Armor and the Revo's

The choice for me is a no brainer.. I'm getting the Revo's when my Stockers wear out.

Wears like a highway tire yet seems to work like a snow M/S tire.

Also note the "total miles reported"

FYI the Silent armor has only TWO 50K - 70K miles reviews a 1/2 ton and a Nissan Xterra

The Revo has 152 reviews in the 50K- 70K miles
and most importantly the Revo has 37 reviews in the 70K+ mile range.

After reading tons of reviews of the top 10 tires for our trucks they are my next set regardless of price.
