Gvw rating question
On the truck I am buying the doorjamb sticker clearly reads 12,000 max gvwr. However, on the Maryland title I got w/ the truck it reads 10,000 gr. veh. wt. What's up w/ that . Iyt is the dually, so I know the gvw is more than 10,000 lbs.
Normallly I wouldn't care, but in Ohio the laws are split from 10,000 and under and 10,001 and over. I need the 10,001 and over for my future lift plans. Thanks for any info, Dan

Dan, my Maryland titles always listed a low GVWR. I'm thinking it must be because its not a commercial vehicle. My old CC Ford Big Dooley's title had the same 7K as my Dodge does.
The good news is that with the title listed as 7K, I can include the truck on the same MD EZ-Pass with my Mustang and the motorcycle. Anything over 7K goes into the Commercial category and higher rates thru the toll booths.

Why would you want to change what you pay taxes on? It doesn't limit how much you can haul. The 12,000 lb weight rating on the door jamb is what the truck is rated to gross when loaded. The 10,000 lb licencing is just what the state rates it for to keep it under the commercial rateing.

Why would anybody volunteer to pay higher fee's and taxes? Unless you are driving commercial and the dot laws require it, and you don't want to get caught with an under rated plate.
