Goodyear tire cracks
Just curious, I have recently noticed what I would consider hairline (some significantly larger) cracks in the sidewalls of my stock origional equip Goodyear tires, especially the front tires. You can not see sidewall cording yet but I think that will be showing soon. The truck sits in the shade a lot, other vehicles I own with older tires are not showing these cracks but my dealer says they are just "weather cracks" and not to worry. Pressure was kept at 55psi when purchased then later raised to 60 psi. A local Goodyear dealer says tires are underinflated, therefore my problem not his, Dodge says 55 is correct pressure he said should run 80psi all the time with diesel engine. Tires were manufactured February 04 and I purchased the truck new in early 05. As you would expect everyone is pointing fingers at someone else and looks like I will have to live with the screwed up tires or pay out of my pocket. This truck is seldem driven without a 10k trailer behing it. Anyone else noticed this problem? Thanks

Agree with Hounddog, it has been going on every since Dodge went to the 17" 235 tire. I've never had one blow out, or heard of one blowing out, but I don't run them any more. Got tired of dealing with the Goodyear stall. Running Pirelli 265/70/17 now, same diameter tire, no problem with speedo. Seem to be doing fine to this point, don't have but about 35k on them.

Dealer replaced mine on 04 dually for this problem.
First replacement was another set of Goodyear's. In less than a month they had the cracks also. So second replace was with General's. I've had great sucess with these General's.
I did suffer a blowout, driver's inside rear at 60mph. It blew a gash in the side right along the cracks.

The Michelins that came on my truck did the same thing. Michelins said they would warranty it,but only Pro Rate it. I was still going to have to pay 450.00 plus the mounting. So Im going to put an Off-road tire on instead. Michelin left a bad taste in my mouth.

3 Friends .Two with03s which one is a 4x4 both SRW.The other is a 05 dually 4x4.The 03s came with Michelins. The 05 dually with general RWL. BOTH 03s got OVER 90k on ther factory tires and BOTH bought more. The 05 dually has about 88k on it with all tires JUST now in the wear bars.He is buying MORE of the same(they also happened to be the best priced of the tires he has priced)All these pull and work mostly hiway miles.HOW do some of you all(Southern sounding ain't it)get so little mileage out of tires. These guys think D.C. did a great job with the factory tires they used.

Thanks for the info guys it was very helpful, especially concerning the blowout issue from NEW2CTD. Think I will go back to the dealer and be a little more assertive this time. These tires seem to be wearing great, can hardly tell they have been on the road except for the CRACKS in the sidewall. I will post results as soon as I have something.

Don't wait too long!!!!!
Notice the pics in my gallery of the Goodyear Workhorse Extra Grip tire. Notice that it wasn't much of a work horse, except for destroying the inner fender panel in another pic, denting my fender, and ripping the paint off my door. It un-capped at 75 mph on the turnpike next to another car. After cleaning my pants out, I picked up the pieces. See pics.
I went through goodyear claims and they paid to have my truck fixed and a new tire. $1400 in all. They were good about it.
Don't wait too long to address it. Like they say, too much is riding on your tires!
