going back to the dealer today, opinions please
well i found MY truck, exactly what i would buy if it was new
2005 2500 Dodge, CTD, quad cab, short bed, dark grey, w/ power everything, tow package, premier cloth interior, and a few other things
165xx miles and just off lease, wasnt worked, just an older gentalman who has always driven trucks
sticker was 37000
already have them down to 33000 without really doing anything out the door (includes tax, title, reg, and any other stupid crap)
me and my father (he will be my cosigner if i need it since im just out of college and starting a new job) are going there today going to talk them down more
going to tell them i like the truck and all but i need it for 28000 and see where it goes, hoping i can get them down to no more then 30 out the door
hopefully make my very first "real" car purchase
im heading back late moorning early afternoon so, anyone have any opinions on the price? high/low?

DON DO IT!!!!
I got my 06 2500 quad cab auto shortbed, tow package 4x4 for $31k... With tax and all it was like $32500 out the door.
My sticker was $42,000. Right now they are offering $4500 incentives, which is great. You should be able to get what I got, but the incentives are about $500 more right now.

The sticker price on my truck was $41,150 and I got the dealer down to $33,500. This was with $5000 in rebates and me just chewing him down. I bought the truck mid '04 when the '05's were on the lot. Dealer had a bunch of '04's on the lot when I purchased mine. Definetly look around to get a better price.

Heck - that's more than I paid for mine brand new; the only real difference that I can see is the tranny.
I'd suggest contacting someone like Tomeygun (do a search on his name here) and see what kind of deal he could get you. If you could pick up a new one here in MO for the same price or less than a used one back there, it might be worth the plane ride out and drive back... It's only a long day drive back to MA from MO...
Besides, you'd probably get better financing rates on a new one vs. a used one, and the warranty would (in effect) be longer for you as well. I don't always buy the whole 'this was driven by a little old lady from Pasadena' story the dealers try to sell you on used vehicles anyway...
Just my thoughts - - - -

i was looking at slightly used diesel trucks and quickly figured out that new was the way to go. my truck listed for $43K and i got it for $33K, which included $4000 in rebates. my salesman said the only way they sell slightly used diesel trucks is if the buyer doesn't know about the rebates or is just set on getting used. spending only a few grand more for brand new was the pretty easy choice.

Derek J... You are just in the wrong part of the country. I think it would be worth it to spend a few hundred bucks flying out of state and driving the brand new 06 truck home. Im in TX and my truck deal is a dime a dozen around here.

Derek J ditto what most others have said, you can get a very good deal on new. When I was looking for my 05 I checked ebay and if I remember correctly there was a dealer in Hickory, NC that had some pretty good deals. That is not too far from Ma. I was going to fly and buy but they had offers in the paper out here in AZ for $31k, SLT 4x4, Big Horn 2500 ($1k more) for 3500. The sticker on that truck was $42k. I traded it in on my current MC, they gave me right at $30k trade in and stickered it on their lot for $36k. I didnt get quite as much off in this one but the financing was considerably lower. You may want to check out www.carsdirect.com as well, you can build and price their and dont have to deal with the salespeople.

Go to eBay motors and under the vehicle search specify a 2006 Ram 2500, and then search by "lowest mileage". You will see many new trucks sold by authorized Dodge dealers at or below invoice. Find the closest dealer and email or call them.
You should get at least $10K off the sticker price with the current rebates (there is also a $1000 factory to dealer incentive for pickups, according to the WSJ). Print out a few of the "Buy It Now" ebay prices for similar trucks and take it to your local dealer....maybe he will deal.
My truck had a MSRP sticker of $42500 and I bought it for $32500 (before tax, lic, DMV etc)
