General question about my 05..
I just bought a 05 CTD in a 2500 wrapper and I was wondering if there are any specific maintenance/problem issues that I need to be aware of? I have been reading as much as I can here and trying to learn. I pull a 20' trailer that fully loaded only weighs around 7,000 pounds so I don't think I am going to be over working my CTD. I just wondered, having never owned a Dodge, if there is any common problems that I need to be looking for. I used to hear Dodge trucks had front end issues but outside of that I don't know anything. The comments I have heard about the front end's was a long time ago so I don't know if that even applies to my truck. I own a heating and air conditioning business and I am only hauling the trailer loaded about three or four times a month which is lite duty I am sure. Thanks.

Seriously, you'll find your new ride tows like a dream. Consider updating your signature with a little more detail about your truck so others can comment on trans, rear end, bed size, options you've added, etc. It helps when you ask questions.
I can't speak first-hand on the 05s, but here is a short list of the more common problems people discuss here:
1) Cab smell
2) Door seals
3) Fuel mileage
4) 70mph vibration (more prevalent in short bed, 4x4, auto trucks but not unheard of in others)
5) Seats (although I think they're really comfy - for me, anyway)
6) 48RE in the 05s. Some complain that they don't lock out OD in Tow/Haul - something that the earlier models did do.
7) Ball joints - don't know much about this one, but some report premature failure.
That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure others will add more.
Congrats on your purchase and try to keep that SE grin off your face.

You might want to find a small car or something to add to your trailer so you can feel something back there!

If you have an auto, its a 48re. I tow a 30ft gooseneck with total truck combined gross wieght of 18593# and pulls great. Might want to look into having the auto idle programmed (reflash) into your trucks computer great option

48RE stands for:
4 = 4 forward speeds
8 = strength of trans. (1-9, higher number, stronger trans.)
R = Rear wheel drive
H=Hydraulic controlled, E = Electronic controlled shift
This is from: http://dodgeram.org/ an awesome tech site for ram owners, although there isn't much for the 03+ owners. (Still worth your time to check out, though)
