fueling up when running
How many of you fill up while leaving your truck running. I just got back from a long trip pulling heavy and every time I needed to fill up I sat at the pump for about 4 minutes to let the turbo cool down. Then shut the truck off and filled. I know the big rigs don't shut down to fill, what about you guys?

A lot of guys do it. If I lived where it was -40° I'd probably do it too.
As far as letting the turbo cool down,I've found that by the time I get off the highway and into the fuel station my temps are usually low enough to shut down.

Gotta let it run or the heater will not keep it warm. Nobody wants a cold truck. I let mine idle all the time. In the summer it keeps the air going. I have over 8900 hrs on the truck at this point.

"Pump 12... You have to shut your engine off..... PUMP 12 !!! You have to SHUT YOUR ENGINE OFF !!! ........Pump 12 if you don't shut your engine off I'm going to have to turn the pump off. "
Who the heck is this pump 12 guy ? He seems to be at the station the same times I am.

In the winter when it is cold, I'll leave it running. In the spring or summer I'll usually shut it down. The attendant doesn't seem to care but I'll shut her down in warm weather out of courtesy.

I dont shut it down. Usually have my little girl in the back, so its running to either keep her warm or cool...of course, before I had her, I never shut it off either. But now I have an excuse!!

I don't shut off, ever.......in any temp, while refueling. The only way I will shut it off is if the "pay at the pump" thingy doesn't give me a receipt and I have walk inside to get one. Then I shut it off so it doesn't get driven off.
