Fuel tank questions? Found something interesting!

My 2002 1500 has a factory listed capacity of 26 gallons, did they decrease the tank size when they went from the 360 to the Semi-Hemi? That said I have only been able to squeeze in an extra gallon or two once the pump clicks off on my 360.

Rob. I was thinking of doing this mod. You are the first person to say they couldn't get more fuel in.
I hate waiting for it to fill to the neck. It's almost an extra 10 minutes. Could you have had more gas in it than you think?

This sped up the process for me, I bought 2 of them to dump the last bit after the pump clicks off.

Yes, it's not lightning fast, but it's definitely faster...No click-pump-click-pump-click-pump-click-pump.
I pour most of one in and then some of the second, you can't get all of it out into the truck the side of the truck doesn't let you tip the can all the way.
I usually pull up, fill/top off both cans, fill the truck until the pump clicks off, then use the cans, when I'm done I pour the lesser can into the fuller one and repeat at the next fill-up.
Probably 3-4 minutes to dump each can in. The cans were $14 each at Lowes, make sure you get the diesel (Yellow) cans. I wanted the cans anyways to keep on the truck for long trips anyways. If you put a ratchet strap across the 2 tiedowns just inside the bed, it holds the cans side by side sideways perfectly, I even keep a bottle of Diesel Kleen or Redline Diesel in between them.
Really the biggest benefit is that you can top off at home with a beer instead of having someone behind you crying because you're taking too long.

How do you think those plastic cans will do in the extreme az heat? I'm pulling a 32ft weekend warrior over fathers day weekend up north and the idea of sitting at a gas station with the toy hauler attached does not excite me at all!!

Those of you running until the dash dings and the overhead reads 0 should check out the article at Glacier Diesel about the new in tank lift pump under lift pump exposed.
http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/sh...s.asp?pid=1011
They have some cool pictures of the pump and talk about how it works. They also explain that running the tank past a quarter tank when temperatures are low could cause some problems. Not to metion overheating the fuel pump. Granted this is for stock applications with the in tank pump. Which became standard on the 2005 Mid Model Year... I think?

I'm not Arizona hot, but I'm within grasp of Phoenix temps.
Last year, Driftboat fly fishing for Shad, it was 109 at 8pm on the American River.
It's been mild so far this year? But I haven't caught fire yet.
The Jeepers is in the summer and they carry Jerry(SP?) cans with Gasoline in them.

I drained and cleaned my tank when I installed the FASS and the vent kit. I filled back up with almost 40 gallons of fuel. I have a "35 gallon" tank. Now my guage dosen't budge for 220 miles. I usually fill up when I hit 1/2 a tank.

I do not have the vent mod done, but I have noticed that ulsd does not foam nearly as much as the old stuff. I can fill to the filler neck in about 1 minute after the pump shuts off, so I figure that there is no need for the vent mod.

I would think that may be more pump related. Out here in Cali we've been on ULSD for a while and it foams like crazy at most stations, I filled up in SoCal a few weeks ago outside of Gorman(IIRC) and you could barely pull the lever and let the diesel slowly go in. Every other station it's on full or not on.

I have been thinking the same thing, but there was only like an inch in the bottom, I was worried I would run out on my way to the station. It definitely cured the long wait, after the pump clicked off the first time, it took less than 3 min to get it full to the neck.
