fuel operated cab heater

I saw in the 07 Ram booklet that a "fuel-operated cab heater" was listed as an option. It says it will heat the cab without the truck running and can be programmed to run at certain times. My dealer had no idea about it, I was wondering if anyone new about it. Specifically if it can be put on my 06 anyone

Mopar is using something called the ESPAR heater. There is also one called the Blueheat heater. Yes they can be put on the 06, specifically the ESPAR. I know the Blueheat heater costs about $1600. I wouldn't mind having one if it weren't for the price. You can do a search online and find more info on both.

Here is a link to another discussion a while back about the same topic:

I'm sure other people will chime in though...

I have this heater installed on my '06 and I Love it. It works really well. I really enjoy having a fairly warm cab in the morning when the truck hasn't been plugged in when its cold outside.

I have a small 'defroster' heater that runs on 12 volts, plug it in to the aux power, puts out a lot of heat. I plug it in when I start up the truck, after a couple minutes it has defrosted the windshield and heated up the cab some. I got it years ago from JC Whitney, I believe they still sell them, think it was in the Jeep stuff.

Did you by it from the dealer or elsewhere? How much?

I bought it from my local dealer........it was $1800 cdn plus install. You might want to check out your local Cummins dealer as well. In my case both were the same price installed so I choose the dealer because they were closer.

Does it resemble the gas heaters they used to put in Corvairs and VWs? I got one out of a 'Vair back in the 60s and put it under the hood of my '67 CJ5. It didn't have a fuel pump but I had an electric one on the Jeep anyway so you could just sit and run the heater with the engine off. I believe that the VW heater had its' own electric pump. I'll bet you wouldn't trade it for anything, Roger?
