Handymantim, come on now really, do you think I could make that up? Think about every time someone asks you where you are from, you answer and then get a, where? But you would be suprised everynow and then people have been there, we got a post office, a gas station and a redlight and thats it.

I do a lot of these(5-10 per week)... The easiest way that I have found is use a Rachet w/ a 12" extension and a 1-1/8" wobble socket >>> this keeps you from have to get down in there and skin knuckles >>> I have gotten to where I can do it in about 3-4 min!
I have been using Baldwin with good results.

priming fuel system after change

I am sure yall know this trick to but for those who don't. When I change mine and drain the fuel out of the bowl it has to be primed afterwards. I leave the top a little loose and have a buddy turn the key over 4 or 5 times. This will run the pump about 3 seconds each time u turn the key to the on position. As soon as a start getting fuel coming out at the top of the bowl I tighten her down. The truck usually starts almost immediately after. Seems to work great for me.

tsmay,

There is an easier and cleaner way to prime the system. You don't need to leave the top open/loose . Go ahead and tighten it down. Instead of just turning the key to the on position, just bump the starter. The fuel pump will run for 25 seconds then. I try and start it after 1 "bump". If it doesn't run right away, the lift pump runs for another 25 seconds. It usually starts on the second "bump".

Basically its what roadrat said.

Another tip to keep things clean. I got a piece of tube and a fitting with two male ends. I just plug that into the drain tube coming off the filter and run the drained fuel into a 2 liter bottle. I am able to put that fuel right back into the tank. You will also be able to tell if there was actually any water in the fuel if you let it sit for 10 minutes on the workbench.

I also try and blow any dust/dirt out of the lid area, so when I remove the lid, hopefully no dirt will fall into the bowl. I will wipe out the bowl with a lint free rag before reinstalling the filter.

Once I pull the filter, I drop it and the cap into a ziplock, then I can pull the filter out of the cap with the ziploc bag so I don't end up smelling like diesel. I don't mind the smell, but the wife has issues with it.

Like Oilguy said, the wobble socket and 12" extension makes this job a piece of cake!

Place to work if needed

SSMinnow, I see you are in Pearland. If any of you guys ever need a garage or any of yall in the area of Angleton, My dad has a diesel shop where he rebuilds all the Detroits for the crewboats on the gulf coast, let me know and I will put you in touch with him, you just might have to put in ear plugs while he runs the screaming 2 stroke 12v71's in the shop . He lives off CR 36. Also, he has a 2003 3500 ctd, that he hauls the v-12's in. They weigh 4200lbs. Actually, if anyone is in his area, could I ask a favor and have someone stop in and tell him to put a F/O pressure gauge in..he will not listen to me, thinks everything is alright(old school detroit diesel man) and truck stalls on him, I told him to take it in while still under warranty...but he is just stuborn I guess.

Not in the Angleton area much at all. Probaly been about 9-10 months or longer for that matter since I have been down that way. My wife goes every other Wed to drop off paper work for her job, but that is about it. If I do plan on making it down that way, I will give ya a shout first. Tahnks for the offer also
