Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

just picked up my 03 4x4 quad cab long box 2500 friday and i love it. drove back down to school (157 miles) doing 70-75mph and computer says 16.8 average mpg. I guess drivin hammer down whenever i pass a psd or duramax doesnt really help me(i saw 8, 6 psd, and 2 duramax). But i really get some looks of pure envy ;D the only things i miss about my 98 are the noise and the smoke. oh well i'll fix those sooner or later

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

;D ;D

Duck

I hate to tell you this but we are talking mpg. Canada has always used the Imperial gallon which is greater in volume than the US gal.
The Imperial gallon is the statute of measures used in the U.K. Because of our close affiliation with the British system of government we also adapted there units of measurement, until changing to the metric system (partly) many years ago. This is still a sore spot with many of us who didn't agree with it in the first place. Kinda dumb when our largest trading partner and closest neigbours is the U.S.A who didn't change to metric.
Hence many of us still convert everything so we can understand and relate to it. There is 1.2 U.S gal. in 1 Imperial gal. I won't get into all the boring metirc equivalents for each.
Regardless when a Canadian talks mpg it will always be of the imperial measure, and he is probably of age were he went to grade school in the 50's & 60's when it was still taught.
Anybody quoting metric is post70's education or a European immigrant.
From now on when I post I'll try to remember to post in both gallon measurements. Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

Sullivad,
I now have over 5,400 miles on my 2500 and listed below is what my truck gets for mpg. These numbers are for steady speed on cruise control, flat road, no acceleration, unloaded. Reading are taken from the computer.

1. 50 mph = 24.5 mpg ;D ;D
2. 60 mph = 22.5 mpg ;D
3. 70 mph = 18.5 mpg
4. 80 mph = 16.0 mpg [undecided]

Subtract 1 mpg for A/C

The Boss Hog

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

Gotcha Goat.

I guess I am getting sort of crappy mileage. It might be the larger tires doing it, along with my normal driving habit to shift around 2500+ RPM, and cruise the highway at 70-80.

Last fill-up, I went the entire 2 weeks shifting at 2000RPM and keeping it at 65 on the highway (it was very very painful, but in the interest of science...). Pen and paper says all my efforts were worth a whopping 15.5MPG. That's compared to my normal 14.5. Yes, I correct the odometer reading to compensate for my larger tires. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to drive conservatively :

I hope it gets better with age. Only has 3300 on it right now.
Mr. Goat
I usually figure my milage (or Kilometerage if you like) in Imperial gallons but when I am posting on a website where most of the people are American I use miles to the US gal.and so to most of the Canadians that I have seen. Yes I am older 60 years old or Pre Trudeau. And to our American friends I say don't ever let them force the metric system on you.
Jim O

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

I haven't found the overhead computer to be very accurate. Pen and paper I've been getting around 17 mpg for the last three tankfulls but the computer reads 1.2-2.5 mpg higher. That's mainly suburbia driving and with only 2500 miles on it. I expect better after it's broken in and on highway trips.

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

Hey Duck,

I converted it to US units. I get 22.5 miles to the Canadian gallon. Miles is the same in Canada as it is in the US. I never could figure out the kilometer stuff. Too old I guess.

Casey

Thank you for the attitude adjustment. I am getting 'bout 17.5 to 18.5 running empty by the way.

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500

Just remember when looking at the metric reading on the trip computer a higher number means the lower your mpg. .
The trip computer calculates litres used per 100 km(60 miles) so the smaller the number (less fuel burned ) the better.
