Fuel Consumption - 2500
Is there any difference in the fuel consumption between the HO (6 spd) and the standard Diesel engines? What is the hiway milage that can be expected?

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500
Well these numbers will scare you. Just made a trip that was about 260 miles each way to get my trailer. On the way their I averaged 15.5 on the way back with a 40' long goose neck trailer that I would guess weighed in the 8000-9000# area I got 9.5

This was all acording to the over head computer, I didn't check it with the old pen and paper.

Most of the time was traveling at 75mph and the average temp out side was 0 so it was with blended fuel as you can imagine.

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500
Many people are finding that the mileage drops off quickly when running over 2000 rpm. Fuel mileage is subject to the way one drives so it is hard to come up with hard and fast number. I can tell you that mine gets 17 to 19 in this cold weather and in the warmer weather I was getting 18 to 20. This is mainly just driving around. Some highway and some city. I would expect to get well over 20 on a trip with summer fuel. I have not towed yet so I can't give you any idea on that but I expect somewhere around 11 to 12 with my 30 foot fiver. I drive pretty conservatively most of the time.

Casey

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500
Moderation is the key to good mileage with a CTD...most of us find the sweet spot is in the 60-65 MPH range...and this becomes more so if your towing...my MPG really drop towing at anything over 65-70 MPH overall the MPG will still be allot better then a gasser pulling the same load

just drove 2600k with my new HO/6spd. (picked it up Tuesay night) pen and paper fuel mileage was high of 26.7 low of 24.6. Truck now has 3015k on it. Overhead computer said average of trip was 22.9
Comfortable truck but the trans takes some getting used to. Will let you know what it runs loaded.

Paul
'03 2500 4x2quad s/b HO/6spd 3.73 SLT

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500
With 200 miles and no pen and paper calcuations to back it up, the computer is saying 18.7mpg.

I am heppy with that considering the engine is tight...most noticably when the rpms hit 23-2400rpm. There is a change in engine tone and it just seems you need a lot of pedal to make it rev. So I have been shifting in the 21-2200rpm range and cruising on the highways in 5th or 6th at 1700-2100rpm.

Cant wait for the engine to loosen up a bit so I can see if the numbers get a little better prior to my foot getting a little heavier. The loud pedal requires such an awkward angle position (maybe I should post that on the "what dont I like" board).

The HO should get no worse mileage than the SO....PROVIDED that you never pull more horsepower out of it than the SO produces. But, you will. If you don't, you didn't need the HO.

Re:Fuel Consumption - 2500
I just finished a day trip- only a couple hundred miles or so, but the on-board computer is showing 21.4mpg for this tankfull. It's running about .4 mpg too high. I expect I got around 20.9mpg. I'll fill the tank tomorrow and run the real numbers.

Am I easy on the go pedal? Yep. Do I run almost empty? Yep. Am I happy with this mileage? You betcha! Baby is still under 5K total miles and this is as winter as our fuel ever gets... After break in is complete and when I'm running summer fuel, I'm expecting to see 22 mpg and higher.

Jean

;D ;D

I just figured mine out in long hand yesterday, 21.5 mpg. Imperial. The temps have been well below zero F and lots of snow, so she's seen alot of time in 4x4. I'am very pleased with the mileage. Combination of around town and highway.

Pete

Dodgeclown, get it back to the dealer. There is something seriously wrong unless you have your foot into it all of the time. You should get almost double that. I get 18 mpg on winter blend. I know I have a 2wd but even so, your mileage sucks big time. I do drive rather conservatively. Definitely something wrong there.

Casey
