Front Pinion Seal leaking..

Hey guys, fron pinion seal apears to be leaking where the front driveshaft connects to the front differential. Would this be covered by the 100k powertrain warranty ? I have 70 k on the truck. Oh and by the way, I just had to have both passenger side ball joints replaced and 6 new tires, as my goodyear gs-a's were all dry rotted on the inside of the tires near the rim...

If not, how much would this cost to have repaired ?

I had mine done right before the 36,000 mark so it wasn't a charge at all. Inside the 70,000 would have been 100.00 and now over 70,000, its on you. I can't imagine someone would charge more than a 100.00 to do it.

good luck

The GOODYEARS wern't dry rotted.they were DEFECTIVE.Its been a issue that I'm sure GOODREAR is aware of.Most have been pro rated on a new tire etc.The pinion seal has TWO ways to do it.One costs more then the other! Correct way is to reset pinion preload which to do so requires a fair amount of dissasembly of the differantial(as per the repair manual). The CHEAPER way with NO warranty is a decent tech marks the threads on the pinion nut and reinstalls said pinion nut to same thread. If it howls it will take a QUICK readjustment. Some techs can do them all day like this and get them spot on.Others aren't so lucky.

I just did mine at 136000. It is pretty simple.

They better not charge very much the seal is $14 and it took less than 1 hour

Do these axles use Pre load shims or a Crush sleve?
