Found a 3rd gen for sale...need opinions PLEASE!

I found a 2005 Dodge Crewcab 4x4 Cummins Diesel ST short wheel base. automatic transmission. tilt, cruise, am/fm/cd, sliding back glass manual locks and windows. Truck has 130,000 miles and is a lease turn in. $13900!
It was a fleet vehicle for a large company. Please list any thoughts you have about it.

Thanks!

You may be able to find a similar truck maybe an 03-04 with more creature comforts for around the same money depending on its condition and add-ons.

What do you want to do with the truck?

Just my opinion, but I'd be leery of a fleet vehicle unless they can produce maintenance records. If they can do that and you like the truck, why not go for it?

With 130k on the ticker, be prepared to put in some new sticks soon if it hasn't already been done.

Like stated above, do your research, find out any and all info. possible. The price is right, just make sure your not buying something that is used up.

Dont know that there are any maintenance records. The seller is a dealer that gets a good bit of fleet trade-ins. The truck is a little less than two hours from me so I havent seen it in person yet. I may get a chance to go look at it tomorrow.

Lots of good points (I automatically assumed a good service record since it was with a large company...brain fart) Keep em coming.

lift pump is in the tank, you should be able to find one that has more features for around that price. 03 04 are more prone to injector problems then the 04.5 and up that are stock, seems that if ya chip em the injectors go sooner

Would an oil analysis be a "tell all" solution to what condition the engine is in? Is it difficult to get one performed?

You should be able to find one with less miles and a SLT package around the same money.

I just bought a 06 with 51400 miles for 17,500 with service records. It was a company truck that several different people drove. The truck had a new motor installed just after I bought it under warranty. The people that drove the truck didn't cool the turbo and blowed it. Wiped out number 6 cylinder walls all 4 valves and a hole in the piston.

Just thank about what type of person was driving the truck, and it's out of warranty.

If the trucks in REAL GOOD shape, that's a decent price for sure.
If you want manual windows, locks and a rubber floor, even better, but if you'er selling it anytime soon, it'll hurt resale.
Fleet vehicle = Beat on.....99% of the time. Which truck do you think I take 4 wheelin? My nice shiny personal Mega Cab, or my company truck?
