Forged vs. Cast Wheels

I am looking at two CTD's. They are identical - 600/325, 4X4, 6 spd, 3.73, quad cab. Even the options are identical, EXCEPT, one has cast aluminum wheels, and the other one forged. I thought all the Ram aluminum wheels were cast. I did not realize that some of the Rams were offered w/ forged wheels.

Am I better off getting the forged (I know the technical reasons of why forged can be better)? I like the color of the truck w/ the cast wheels better.

Mark,

Do you mean they both have stock Dodge wheels? Do the wheels look different?

Yes they are both dodge wheels. One sais 'Forged' & the other 'Cast' on the window sticker. They look slightly different but not much.

The cast dodge wheels are the painted finish and the forged wheels are the polished/chromed finish, which became available about 4 months ago.

So are the forged better? Was dodge having problems w/ the cast?

To my knowledge DC has not had any problems with the cast wheels. This can be validated by the lack of any posts here and at TDR on the topic. I personally like the looks of the powder coated wheel (cast) better than the forged also. Personal preference. Although forged is technically stronger than cast, I believe the stock cast wheels are strong enough for our trucks and the loads we carry. Not sure the reasoning behind offering two unless it presents more options to compete with the competition.

Maybe the forged ones are easier to polish or they just switched mfrs. I did a chrome exchange with my cast wheels ($500) which I like a lot. I wouldn't have bothered, though, if I'd had the polished ones to begin with. Wait awhile and you can probably get them on ebay from someone who switches to aftermarket or H2 wheels.
