I sold my '01 2500HD last Spring before I bought my Ram. It had the 8.1 liter gas engine and Allison. I looked for about 3 months when I bought my Chevy for a 6 spd manual. I finally gave up and bought the Allison. As far as autos go,the Allison was ok I guess. I never really warmed up to it though.

When I was new truck shopping last Spring,I wanted another 8.1 and was going to order a 6 spd. Come to find out GM dropped the 8.1 AND the 6 spd option.

I won't own another Ford after the Ranger I bought new in '98,talk about a POS.

Dodge was my next choice. I was pleasantly surprised when the first dealer I went to had a nice selection of manuals on the lot. I really didn't want a diesel, but Dodge didn't offer a V10 anymore. I decided I wanted the last of the 5.9s if I had to get a diesel to get a 6 spd.

The fact that my dealer knocked about $13,000 off the price didn't hurt either.

My Dad flipped me a lot of BS when he found out I bought a Dodge. We were diehard GM guys for a long time. The first time he drove my truck he changed his tune. So much so,he went to the same dealer I bought from and bought an identical (other than color) truck to mine.

I sold a 97 F350 CC with 175000 miles on it to buy an 07 2500 with a 5.9 (wanted the last of the real diesels) The Ford had a 7.3 under the hood, great motor and all around a nicely built truck, never let me down aside from 1 alternator and 1 CPS. I bought the Dodge because of the reputation of the Cummins, another great motor, but I would have to say the the overall build quality of the Ford, at least the older ones because I have no experience with the newer ones, is a bit better than the truck I have now. My 07 Ram has as many or more squeeks and rattles in it than the 11 yr old truck that I sold in September. But it's a truck not a luxury mobile, if I wanted luxury (carlike) I woulda bought a GMC pickup.

isold my '05 ford f-250 with a 6.0l. got rid of it becasue it was having too many problems. it only had about 40-45k on it when i ditched it. went with the dodge for the cummins. the new ford 6.4 is getting even worse fuel mileage, and the ones i've driven didn't have the same power (feel) as the cummins. so far i love the new truck. but, time will tell. i loved my ford the first 30k too. the dodge is lacking in some areas compared to ford. didn't look at the chevy. my dodge is tight. no squeeks or rattles, but the interior design is lackluster compared to the ford's. lighter sheetmetal too. oh well, can't have it all.

I've actually kept my Ford and also bought the 06 mega. Really bought the Dodge for the Cummins motor, and have not been dissapointed, the Cummins motor is way more powerful. Overall, quality of the truck build I'd have to stick with the Ford. Better mirrors for towing, sheetmetal doesn't dent as easy, bed seems to be more rugged, seats/ A/C are way better.

Yep, motor wise, hard to beat the Cummins. I actually like the Duramax as well, but dislike the looks of the GM compounded with the IFS front end...

I just sold my 96 F-250 w 250,000 miles. That was one GREAT truck. One water pump at 110,000 and then an alternator at 235,000. Other than that, I only did oil and filter changes.

I switched to Dodge becuase of the price. The Dodge looks better IMO, is a lot quieter and the ride is a bit better. I got the Dodge about $15k cheaper than I figure I would have had to shell out for the Ford I wanted. I think the Ford (at least the old one) was a tougher and better-built truck, but not enough to make up the $15k.

I had a 1998 Chevy C1500 extended cab before the Ram. By 50k that thing was falling apart. Squeaks and rattles abound. Rear leaf spring on the driver side collapsed and was sitting 2" lower than the passenger side. Guess you can't use a 1/2 ton truck like a 'truck'.

I went with the Dodge because I wanted a minimum of a 3/4 ton and a 'real engine'. 5 years of ownership with no regrets. 45k miles and the truck is still tight, amazing for the stiff suspension that it has.

Got rid of my 99 powerstroke after getting out of the plowing business - 290K. Also traded a 00 powertroke at the same time due to recently installing the sixth transmission.
Ford dealers were telling me I could not get a stick with the new 6.4. Come to find out they are available but you have to order them. Dodge was the only option (or so I thought) for a stick so I went that way. Not to mention they are about $7K less than the fords.

Bought new an 03 PSD with the 6.0 (first diesel) It was really a great truck, but once all the horror stories started coming out about the 6.0, I sold it in 05 with about 40K on it. I personally did not have problems with it, but I thought $80.00 for an air filter and $80.00 for an oil change and the fuel filter costs were outrageous. Anyway, bought an F150 and after being used to the power of a diesel, could not stand it. 6 months later I was in the truck in my sig and absolutely love the 5.9L Cummins. As some have said, the build quality tends to be not so great, e.g. I've replaced power sliding back glass, back glass leaked water, replaced water pump, replaced 3 out of 4 power window motor assemblies, replaced power driver's seat mounting rack assembly, etc. I still luv the truck though!

I had an 03 Powerjoke 6.0 and loved the truck till I took it for its first oil change. While under the truck I found the rear main seal was leaking. After replacing that it was down hill from there. 3 turbos, 2 turbo boots, 2 rear main seals, transmission wirring harness, 4 injectors, and a transmission temp censor later I lemoned the truck. If I was smart I would have opted for the Ford A-Plan and bought a new 6.0 and swapped it out with 5.9 600 CR and a Built 48re with the left over money I recieved from Ford

i has a 04 F-350 with the dreaded 6.0, even though it never left me stranded it still was getting to the end of its warranty, so i traded it in. one of the main reasons i purchased a new used truck was my extended cab was not big enough for my 6 month old, 2 1/2 year old and 18 year old step daughter.
So fair i have been really pleased with the milege of my cummins, around 18 average with most of it back road driving comared to my ford getting 13 if i was lucky.
all around i have been happy with my ram, the interior needs some work, the passengers seat is to low which is not a problem for me by my wife has the wiper right in her line of sight.
the only other major gripe is the lack of decent mirriors. i was spoiled by my SD's mirrors and will just need to adjust to the dodges style of mirrors.
