Thumbs up First time towing with my Cummins

Today I decided to load up my old GMC 6.5 TD truck on the trailer, mainly to get its carcass out from in front of my house taking up valuable parking space! So, after wiring up my brake controller (got the generic plug at Tractor Supply Co and then wired that to the Prodigy), I got the trailer and loaded up the truck. Winches are a beautiful thing for 5500 lb vehicles that can't move under their own power. Anyways, gross weight of two trucks plus trailer was probably about 12.5k lbs. The acceleration of the rig was actually FASTER than my old 6.5 could do empty. Pretty sad, but also really funny. Nailed it in 3rd gear and the thing actually pulled hard enough for my buddy and me to feel it!

What a truck! I know, I don't pull a "real" load with it, but I'm still very impressed. I think I'll keep it.

Yeah, I know, I don't pull any real trailers with it. I'm really annoyed that so far I haven't had as many truck uses for my truck as I normally do. Poor thing hasn't gotten to work yet! Hopefully I'll get to do some long tows with it over the next few months. Just hope all the local driving it's been getting doesn't foul up the injectors or anything.

Yeah we have been looking at getting a bigger trailer! That Cummins opens up a whole new world.

Also a funny note: I reset my mileage counter yesterday. Had been at 14.7 after a couple hundred miles of city driving. Today during city driving (including yesterday's towing) it was reading 15.6. If it stays at that, I'll laugh at 10 miles of towing increasing mileage 1 mpg!

Of course, then I'll also have go out and tow a couple thousand miles and see if I get similar results!

The other thrill is pulling a big load up a long steep grade and holding whatever speed you choose.
