Finally got the new truck home, Rock Chips Mega dually fenders
Just got home with my new truck. Got it from dave smith in Idaho. Mega Cab Dually 5.9L 6 speed with all the options.
With the skiing and friends and family visits we made along the way, i put over 1700 miles on it before it hit my driveway.
due to the weather i spent a lot of time driving on really icy roads, and listening to all the gravel and sand pelt the windshield and fenders.
The only really big problem i have now is that the mega cab dually fenders got a lot of rock chips in the paint on the way home. Mostly all down on the lower 8" on the front side.. Its not too bad yet, but i have a habit of driving on highways when they are covered with ice and sand and gravel. A few more miles of that and the paint will dissappear.
Does anyone have a solution for protecting the mega cab dually fenders from rocks? I dont like mud flaps. I was thinking of maybe using some clear plastic stick on shields, or maybe having linex sprayed on that part of the fender. Any ideas or pictures of other peoples solutions woudl be much appriciated.
Thanks,

I used 3M on 2 trucks and 2 cars so far, works great comes in 8mil for hoods fenders bumpers etc. For headlights 40mil. Also did my quad fenders so they wouldn't get scratched. 20mil would most likely be a good thickness for your fenders and bottom part of your doors/rockers. Google 3M Scotchguard or X-pel for your area and you should find a dealer. It is tough stuff and works great. Hope this helps.

I put mudflaps on the front. It keeps my doors clean, but rocks and mud still hit that sectioin of the dually fender. My truck has about 6k miles on it and the fenders have chips like it has 60k. This is the one thing that I really dislike about the truck. I don't think it can be avoided.

Paint the fenders with Imron, then cover with that 3M stuff. I touched up alot of chips within the 1st 2000 miles on my truck as well. Lately I don't seem to be getting as many as I did at first. I may be subconsciously avoiding loose gravel more than I used to?? The mega cabs seem to be much more prone to paint chips on the rear fenders than the long beds are.

Well, I thought I would bring this thread back just to give the update that my truck has 9.5k on it now and the right side fender is riddled with chips. It looks like it has been shot with a shot gun. The left side is not quite as bad, but I imagine that most of the dedris that is picked up is toward the outside of the road.
I don't think there is any way to avoid this due to the design of the fender. It has a lot of area that is facing alomost straight forward.

You mau not like mudflaps, but I bet you like rock chips less! I'd get the longest ones you can find (that don't look totally dorky) for the front wheels. And line the fronts of the fenders w/ 3M film.
My Chev has had that stuff on the front of the hood since new (previous owner) and after 60k miles there's only one spot where a rock has chipped through th film and chipped the paint and a few spots where the film is scarred, but paint is ok. Mind you the truck was driven only 27k mi in it's first four years and I have put 30k on it in the last year, including many winter trips to the mtns, so lots of sand and gravel kicked up from the roads.
The prev owner of my truck must've hated mudflaps too, because the truck was absolutely spotless, well cared for, impeccably maintained, and no mudflaps. Rocker panels and lower rear quarters had plenty of chips in them.
Go figure.
