Filters and oil. (again).
There has been scads of posts re oil and fuel filters, types and grades of oils, and oil quantities as used on the 3rd gen trucks. Makes me dizzy going back and reading all this good stuff.
How about one or more of you experienced types now posting a complete summary of Dodge and Cummins 3rd gen approved:
- Oil and fuel filter part numbers and brands.
- Brands and weights of oil (synthetic and dino) for engine, tranni (manual and auto), front and rear ends and transfer case.
- Oil quantities for each of the above.
- Tips on how to drain and fill each unit. Things to do and not to do.
There has also been much talk about when to change oil in things like transfer case, rear end etc. I know what my manual says, but what is the current thinking on miles before change for each unit? Lets talk only severe use. Has there been any changes to what the manual says?

Your local Cummins dealer is a good place for filters as you get the good stuff for the best price, which is much lower than the Dodge prices. As an example I picked up a few air filters for about $16 each this last weekend, along with some more fuel filters Stratopore oil filters. If you don't have a local Cummins dealer Geno's online is also a good place for filters.
