Factory box liner rubbing through paint
After all the reading I've done on this and other sites, about spray in liners,I thought it might be a good idea to check into getting one inststalled, too. So when I went out to my truck to see how hard it would be to remove the factory liner, I was shocked to see all the rub marks on my new baby!( and that's just from lifting up the rear of the liner a couple of inches!) I haven't had anything in the box, and only have 3500 miles on it. It won't take long before moisture will cause it to rust. My question to the wise is: It's a factory installed option ( I bought the truck off the lot and it's on the window sticker), if this said option is actually damaging the truck,is it covered under warranty? It seems strange that something that's supposed to protect an area of the truck, actually does more damage than good! Thanks,Mark.

In a perfect world, it would be waranteed not to damage your truck. You can take it in and show the dealer, but I doubt they'll agree to do anything about it. They'll probably tell you "that's normal, won't hurt anything".

Go for the spray in Liner. I put Line-x in my '96 and have arranged with the dealer to have Line-x in my forthcoming 2004.5
When they put in the spray liner, they will sand/grid out all the problem areas.
Also, if you have a 5th wheel hitch, they will want all of the hitch removed. This includes those bolted down receiver plates if you have them.....
Enjoy.

I've got an 86 Jeep pickup that I use for a beater. It has had a drop in liner it in since new. Like was said, shiney spots under it but 15 years and 160,000, no problems. How long did you plan on keeping the truck? Incidentally the Jeep is a mini Ram, same suspension, gear boxes, etc, just smaller. And of course the misfit AMC engine.

the reason its shiney is the constant rubbing keeps the rust from forming. I think the spray in liners is the best way to go they hold up good and also makes for a better trade in value.
