You can buy the factory warranty online much cheaper. My New 07 5.9 is the FIRST truck I will have NOT bought the extended warranty. You have until 36,000 to decide. Mine have never used it.. Knowck on wood.

I didn't get the extended warranty either. As was mentioned, you have until 36K to decide. I have just over 25K and have not had a warranty claim yet, 2 recalls, nothing else. With all the warranty voiding taking place, I don't know if it would even be a good investment, might just be money down the drain.

I wanted it on my truck. I want peace of mind for the next 6 years. I like the rental car provision effective now, trip interruption reimbursement and a simple $100 deductible (all effective from day one). Don't know if I'll use it and hope I never have to, but if I sell the truck the insurance is prorated so I could get back some of the money remaining on the term of the contract.
The cost of shop rates and parts aren't getting cheaper and it's hard budgeting for some of those potentially major expenses in a few years. Plus, I'm old enough to know that I'm "opposite guy". Meaning if I don't have the warranty I'll need it, if I buy it, I won't need it.

i don't know anyone who ever bought an extended warranty for a new truck and ended up thinking it was money well spent. also if when you buy your truck it's written up as a business link deal you get lots of free extra warranty stuff including a replacement vehicle for when your truck is down for repairs.

I actually just traded up to a 2006 yesterday. I went with a 7/85k warranty since it was used (starts from in-service date). However, if I watch myself and don't use the warranty for small stuff I get the full amount back in 2012 even if I exceed the mileage.
I thought is was nice insurance to have basically bumper to bumper warranty for 4year/40k and if I decide to just fix stuff myself I can get the full refund. However, if the trans. goes it will pay for itself in one shot.
Just my opinion of course, and my truck has higher miles.
Have a good one.

I bought it on my Durango and it really paid off.. Blend door, 3 power window motors and a heater core....
I also bought it on this truck... Figured might come in handy.. no I am thinking it might not.. there have been NO issues with this truck except the door moldings tearing and they were fixed with the new ones and are fine now... (KNOCK ON WOOD)...

When I got my 05, I went with the extended warrenty as well simply for the fact that with all the electronics these vehicles have on them, I felt it was worth the money in the event that something went wrong.
The only other items I will get an extended warrenty on are computers, big screen tv s and fridges.

i got it for this truck and the one before it. if i had not had it on the earlier truck i would have had to pay for intake leaks, seals, and transmission.
i got it for this truck and a good thing too. 2 motors later, 2 (1 the day after i bought the truck) injection pumps an one lift pump. and i am out of the warranty now so when the lift pump went out again i upgraded to the fass.
i think if you buy new then wait until the end of the new warranty then buy the extended. if you buy used then yes! buy the extended and get the one that covers everything on the rig.
this my 2 cents and i will buy the warranty on the next used rig too.

An extended warranty is nothing more than an insurance policy (I sell them). If you are offered one, cut the price by 50% and the dealer will still be making money. Most of the warranty policies are marked up 150 - 250%. I base mine on 150% for the larger items and 200% for smaller. Remember, the guy selling you the policy is a salesman (or woman) and they are trying to make as much as possible in their commission check.

I'm at 43k now choose not to get the extended warranty. I figured that what ever fails I could then decide to replace stock or other aftermarket. It would have cost me around $3000 to extend 100k, that is a lot of parts & service IMO. Good luck on your decision, it's your money.
