Re:Exhaust smell in cab
I don't know about you guys, but I have both the oil smell and the exhaust smell.
I can live with the oil smell, b/c I know where it's coming from.
But the exhaust smell is what kills me. I have no idea how it is entering the truck. Only happens when stopped and idling like at a light or waiting for someone, etc...
I mean, I don't mind the smell of diesel, but not that much...
Someone mentioned they had it when new, but it went away eventually...I hope mine will go away too.

Re:Exhaust smell in cab
I called the New York State Attorney Generals office and spoke to them about this problem.....their answer is following
If you have taken your truck to be fixed and you are not satisfied withth results, and the fumes are still coming in THEN notify the AG's office for a complaint form, they will send you one to make out and return to them.
I have not been to the dealer with mine has anybody? What did they tell you was the fix? Did they try to correct? etc.
This is how to start the ball rolling. If anyone has been for a fix....please let us know results?
There is also the Federal Consumer Protectiuon Agency we might try.............

Re:Exhaust smell in cab
I asked a question in another thread with no real reply, wouldnt the defroster running in recirc mode do away with the smell since the air is being drawn from in the cab? there has to be a way to do this, my 97 never had any smell. i get it with the blower running on any setting if sitting still and the recirc off. just a thought. my service manager is going to contact DC tomorrow on this will post answers. looking for yalls input

I have 400 miles on my new Calif. 600. It has the smell of fumes that everyone has talked about. It comes in the cab with the windows up and fan blowing thru the heater/air vents, just when you come to a stop and idle. There is no smell if I press the recirculation button on the vent unit. I will tell the dealer when it goes in for the exhaust clamp. When I get a chance I will remove the plastic cowl grill and see if it's the same as the fix in a previous posts. I looked this truck over and under and it is assembled at a much higher standard than my previous '84 Chev. Suburban or my '87 Ford F250. both of which I had also special ordered. This new truck is a pleasure to drive.

You have identified the exact problem. On the new trucks, the breather exits too close to the heater fresh air inlet.
Solution: Extend the breather pipe to exit under the cab. Be sure to tie it to something that does not get hot! or wait, Mopar will be releasing an oil additive that is actually a "perfume" to give the crankcase air a better smell. There has been some design work on an oil filter for the ISB that will do the same as the Mopar fragrance additive. The filter has not been released for production.
From one who is in a position to know!
