:-X My 03 ho six speed is choking me out of the truck when sitting at a light with the defroster on. where is the intake for this air and what is the smell from ? I don't hear a leak anywhere. but due to a lot of slush and snow on the ground I haven't been reel keen on crawling under it lately. I did notice a lot of burnt oil smell when the oil was changed but I saw no leaks or spills there either. I hate to say it but my 93 ford diesel didn't smell..

Not exhuast....from the breather....check to make sure oil is not overfull.........as far as I know it has not been solved yet by anyone...take it to Dodge see what they say.....

I have the same smell at lights...its an exhaust smell that goes away if I turn the defroster fan off and returns as soon as I turn it back on. Hope DC can come up with an easy fix.[move][/move]

I have read of people complaining of this diesel smell in cab. I now have 8,000 miles on my truck. I have NEVER had any type bad smell in cab. No smell/low noise level- you would think that you are riding in a gas burner. Does it happen on certian vent settings?

I love to roll down my passenger rear window to hear the sound of the exhaust system when I get on it and roll thru the gears!

I have it too! I dont get it all the time though. I also got it one time when pushing in on the windshield washer button. I had the heat off or on recycled air.

I have the smell too. where is this breather tube located, and do I need to extend it?

Don't bother extending the breather tube, tried that first, but no cigar :'(

Will be changing out the oil for the first time with Delvac 1 and will make sure not to overfill, could be factory fill is very high on the dipstick causing excess brather fumes.

The only thing I can't understand ??? is, why extending the tube didn't work?....there must be another open breather vent in the engine compartment somewhere, got to be.

It is just for crankcase ventilation. It runs from the driver side middle of the valve cover down to the bottom of the engine. It is very easy to see when you are under the truck.

How far did you extend your blowby tube, where does it terminate? I'm disapointed it didn't fix the problem.
I've been planning on doing the same thing. One idea is to extend it back a bit and tee it into the exhaust pipe. Then all blowby would go out the back.

I extended the tube almost 5 feet just passed the cab, didn't make a difference :'(

I'm wondering if it isn't exhaust that some people have mentioned. Unless there is another exit for crankcase fumes other then the breather tube, it could be.

Whatever is generating the the fumes really isn't the issue, it's the problem with the vent system that allows those fumes from the engine compartment to get inside.
