Exhaust Brake
Have 07 5.9/auto & interested in hav ing exhaust brake installed, is the jacobs brake the best unit to use, or is there better units? Local Dodge dealer wants $1900 installed, is this the going rate? How do your trucks preform with the brakes installed?

PacBrake is the best mod I have done to my truck. Still have the stock brakes at 73k. I installed the ATS Triple Lok Commander (now referred to as the Co-Pilot) which adjusts shift points and works with the exhaust brake in slowing the truck down. I paid around $900 for the brake and around $400 I believe for the Commander.

I plan on installing the PacBrake. It is an easy install, you can do it yourself in around 3-4 hours AND when all is said and done you will have an on-board air tank as well. That is a win-win situation. Many have been having problems with the Jacob units, have not heard any complaints about the PacBrake units. Half the price too.
You can check them out at http://www.pacbrake.com also, they have the installation guide in PDF format, so you can see how simple the install is to do. Check with Lary at the DTR store, he may be able to give you a deal on them, not sure, but worth checking with him just in case.

Delay Time?
How much delay is there in terms of turning the exhaust brake on and it actually engaging? The reason I ask is my friends 06' 3500 6-speed with the Jacob's take about 3 seconds to engage once it is turned on.

I believe there is a 1-2 second delay built into the truck's ECM. But I rarely notice any delay with my Pacbrake, unless I quickly let off the accelerator pedal. Under normal driving conditions, as I slowly lift off the accelerator the brake comes on before my foot is off the pedal. I assume this is because that last bit of pedal travel is like a dead zone, or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, my Pac is about 3 depending on rail pressure. I know the ECU looks at various things upon engagement. Pedal position, rail pressure and water temp are the one's I know for sure.
