Electronic Brake Controller Wiring
I'm looking forward to towing with my new Ram, as I'm sure it will be world's better than it was with my old 6.5. However, I need to wire up my Tekonsha Prodigy so that I can actually stop my rig! I see there are 7 wires (unless I counted wrong) coming out of the brake switch. I'm wondering which wire I should tap for the signal to the controller that the brake pedal is being depressed. I plan on mounting the Prodigy and my CB on the top of the dashboard with double-sided tape (haven't been able to find another good place to put them), that way I don't damage the dash with screw holes and it can easily be undone. I was also planning on running a dedicated fused positive wire from the battery as I don't want to place too much strain on any of the wires in the cabin that are already doing something. I tend to use my cigarette lighter and accessory plugs all at once.

Does your truck have the tow pkg? If so, plug in the pigtail and wire the Prodigy to the pigtail. That's how I installed mine. Took all of 10 minutes. I removed the ashtray insert, and slid the controller right in the opening. When it's not needed, I just slip it out, unplug it and put the insert (tray) back in.

Mine came with the "trailer tow wiring harness with 4-pin connector" but not the tow package. I had to have the dealer install the Class IV hitch. So I'm guessing that means it shouldn't have the pigtail.
I just ran out and pulled out the ashtray insert and I saw no pigtail. Is there another place to look for it? I also only see wiring in the back that goes with the 4-wire plug. I'm guessing I'll have to wire this in myself.

He was saying he put the "controller" in the ash tray space. The connector is usually located under the dash to left side where the main harness connects to the firewall. With the tow package its tied in place with a break away strap but is often hard to find. If its not there because you don't have the tow package then your going to have to go through the schematics to wire the controller. There are pictures as to where to locate the connector. Do a search and you'll find it or someone who has it handy will post it for you I'm sure. In any event good luck.

Do you have the tow package like thy were saying? All are pre wired for the brakes it is located behind the emergency brake. You can also purchase the pig tail from wherever you purchased the prodigy it took me maybe ten Minuit's to wire up. I put to the left of ash tray were I could reach easily Win needed not if needed.Go have fun towing as far using all plugs at once not a problem I use all there of mine at-once a lot of the time. Radar detector, T/V ,cell phone good luck Holier back if need Anything els.

Look for a blue plug way up under the dash above the ebrake lever. You may have to tug on it a bit to get it out where you have access. Mine had a breakaway wire-tie. As suggested, buy the Dodge specific connector for the Prodigy and just plug it in. The most difficult part of the task is screwing up the nerve to drill holes in your $40k dashboard!

I went by the Dodge dealer today and bought my 7-pin connector for the truck. This comes with a long wire to go to the front for the brake controller, which the guy told me I would have to use. As I said in a previous post, my truck did NOT come with the tow package. I found the blue 4-pin connector behind the parking brake to connect the Prodigy to. Tomorrow I'll check with a test light to ensure that it all works like it's supposed to and then buy the Dodge adapter for it. Even if I have to run the wire up that goes between the connector and the controller that would be worth it.
I wasn't going to drill holes in my dash (in my case $31k, I got a lot of discounts), rather use some strong double-sided tape so that if I take it off it's easier to return to stock aesthetically speaking.
Thanks for all the help!
