Hounddog, don't get me wrong I understand how busy your techs and service managers are. But,it still does not make it right for them to not give you paperwork. The paperwork is your proof of service done on your vehicle. Maybe alot of people don't care as much for all the paperwork. And not just at a dealership either. That's just me. I want every single piece of proof for my records. If they don't have paper in the printer then I will wait for them to get some.

Well I know of at least a few dealers that tried to keep 100.00 on the cummins warr.It says right in the manual that there is no deductable for a truck less then 5 years old (2003).When they were showed that they said they would have to look in to it.Its right there in black and white in the manual.IMO there is no reason for the dealer to not know how the warr works.

I have not found a good independent shop, so I go to a dealer. BUT, I have checked the"good, the bad and the ugly." list from Geno's grarage. I print the information out for the places I will be travling to or thru. Also get the information on the dealership I might have to use incase of emergency. Also if for any reason I am not happy with the service, and they do not give me a dealer service survey card, I will request one from DC. I don't have the tools, or place to work on the truck myself.
I have no problem driving to another town and an other dealer.
Also try to get a rapore with the service writer, and use the same one evey time.
Learned a lot about dealerships when I was working and had to do computer communications service and upgrades at dealerships. That included DC Ford, GM and some forgin makes.
I also keep the service records and pertinate information in a 3 hole binder.
Just the way I do stuff.

You know this is what gets me,I am sorry but when your done with my vehicle you produce the paperwork of all work performed and I pay you.Oh come on it really doesn't matter how busy you are you have to produce a receipt of paid and paperwork for job or jobs performed.Yes take it they have everything in the computer @ a dealership but they still have to give you one unless you tell them you don't want it.Not to be so bold about this but if your not happy or satisfied don't take it back there.

true- we all have aspects of our jobs we like and don't like. we all have moments where we would like extra man power,etc-but the budgets, etc don't allow it.! unfortunately when your job deals directly with customers- the ones that pay your salary-( mechanics/techs)- you need to do what it takes to make the customer happy/satisfied. if the paper is out-fill it!! i don't need to work in a busy shop all day to know what busy is or the challenges you face- i deal with the same types of problems in my profession too!. i know when i worked for big business when something was broke it got fixed. if that meant team meetings/new policies to address the problem-whatever. have your shop sit down with the employees and see what needs to be implemented-to keep the paper filled- instead of making excuses-so the customers don't think they are getting SCREWED! why would an educated consumer consider paying for a service if you can not prove it was done?? that is ridiculous!! this is the reason i do all my own maintenance- i don't trust dealers- they bring this stereotype on themselves!!-by their repeated actions! if something is over my head- i'll take my vehicle to an independent shop-where i know the owner of the shop will treat me fairly-because he knows if he doesn't treat his customers with respect and honesty,etc- they will go somewhere else, which means he won't be in business too long!!

Could go weeks and no one would ask for PROOF of alignment on paper. It was recorded on the back of R.O. I know it sounds easy.Papers out put some in.But sometimes it was NOT that easy.**** crap hung, jammed,or would not print.I remember those same situations quite well.THEN you got the ONCE in a blue moon Richard head that wanted it in print.I've had alignments done in the last few years ELSEWHERE(large tire stores) and NOT once did any of them offer me a before and after on paper. In fact they didn't record it on anything.I just asked if out bad and got a YUP.

hounddog- it isn't meant as a diss to you- it is for the way dealerships run their business! because other places never gave you a piece of paper showing the alignment specs-doesn't make it right!! i learned along time ago- to ask for my parts back-when i had work done. at least that way- i had alittle more reassurance that the work was preformed! when dealerships charge an average rate of 90.00 bucks an hour- it is only fair that they provide you with proof the work was performed. i have to admit- i have yet to have an aligment done- and not be provided with a sheet of paper showing the specs. bottom line- it is up to the consumer to be vigilant and assertive-and expect a high level of customer service- if you do not get it- then you need to start going up the food chain. 95% of the time it pays off- i know from experience!! business's get away with most of their poor customer service,etc-because most consumers do not complain at all or they do not go through the proper channels-or stay vigilant!!

It was manditory to ALWAYS give back old parts(also kept them out of MY dumpster) But I'd could have given a hoot if the paper feed on a alignment machine worked.Specs recorded on the ticket was good enough for auditors. It was nice if and when it worked. But honestly unless the printers have improved there was always more to it then paper out,add some.No one but ONCE in a BLUE moon ever asked anyhow.
