Easy place to connect to back up lights under hood?
I'm putting some back up lights on my boat rack and will wire them up to a 3 way switch and put the relay in my canopy which I'll feed using the 6 gauge wire I've got there for my boat loader.
Do you know of a wire under the hood for the back up lights that I could tap into and run to my switch under the dash? From the switch I'll run a wire back to the relay.
I'd rather not tap into the wiring at the back and run it to the switch then have to run another wire back to the relay.

I'm not running a 3-way switch on mine. I did all of the relay and wiring at the back, and ran a power wire to the pass side battery. I use the 12v on the trailer harness for charging the TT battery. Since I have a manual I just put it in reverse with the key on without it running if I need light for a long time. I don't have a boat so I normally don't have it on an incline. I'm sure that's what you need though. Pics in my gallery of lights. Can add one of my wiring if you need.

Yah, I'd like to put in a switch though. I found with my old truck when backing up my trailer at night it's hard to see past the trailer when the front of it is all lit up with the extra lights.
I have a shop manual at home, just hoping someone will know a handy place to tap into something without having to start poking around with a test light...
....or maybe I can tap off the lead from the reverse switch on the tranny..

I have the White Nights backup lights. It uses the 7way plug to connect to.
It has a 3 way switch. Off, On and On when in Reverse.
Works good, I use it with my trailer when I'm loading my Jeep.

That thing!
Why it's the Totally Integrated Power Module of course. It's the new and improved power dist center. It's the box next to your drvr side battery. If you open it you will see there are no relays. Everything is now internal and controlled by a mini computer and internal relay/breakers. I don't know why the new design. The day D-C called for my opinion, I was out sick.

That must be one powerful light. #6 is a little overkill but there won't be any voltage drop.

the wire/plug for the reverse lights is just behind the driver side front wheel.
look thru my perimeter lighting thread, it's white with a ____ stripe.
pretty easy to find.
i would control those lights with the Cargo Light switch, that way it's all stock, and it kicks bit of light, with the cargo lite, backup lites, and your added lights.

Okay, you said behind the drivers front wheel, I checked that thread, didn't see the picture but I saw you talking about it in your gallery, there you showed it behind the A-pillar trim, is that waht you meant?

Where can I find the cargo switch wire?
I'd like to run my auxiliary back-up lights of that switch. Do I need to use a diode between the cargo light wire and the trigger on the relay?

O4, I'll PM you my email, will take a kit too if there's any left.
I still want to be able to turn off my back ups, and don't want my cargo light on when backing up, it bounces off my canopy and makes it hard to see behind the truck.

I tapped into the reverse light wire at the tranny when I did mine, its White with a light green strip, wouldnt hurt to double check with a multi meter when you go to hook it up there is a white with dark green and white with light green but Im pretty sure its the light green one.
