I just traded a 05 Duramax GMC, (could never buy a chevy(UGLY)). I had 49000 miles on it. It left me stranded 2 times and was in the shop 4 other times, plus all the other things that were fixed by me. It was the biggest piece of crap I have ever had. One other thing is that the way I was treated bringing my truck in , I will NEVER own a GM vehicle again. And please don't talk about the allison in the GMs, they can only hold as much power as our trannies. Get a Dodge just because it is a real truck that drives like a truck, not a wanna be truck that has to drive like a caddy.

Wow! This thread filled up pretty quickly. Thank Y'all! This will give her something to consider about her Duramax. Cummins all the way!!!

P.S. The older Chevys are actually pretty good (edit; before 1990)IMO

All hail ImpulseHydro. I could never think of owning a heavy truck with an IFS. I came from the other side of the fence, drove 2 Freds; there's nothing like a Cummins!

Almost 300k on mine before I traded and was as tight as day one. Never replaced a single thing. Heck I was really bad about greasing too.

Go make this same post over on the diesel place and see what you get, or on towrig at least thats not a specific brand site.

Yea, our solid axle fronts ends are really tough; well other than the fact that they chew up u-joints, ball joints and are subject to death wobble. Try to get 300 K on the Dodge front end with out replacing something. But I guess we don’t have any CV-joint “fuses”.

Duramax interior wins hands down. I suspect their fit and finish is better too inside; my crackling radio sounds like a 50's jukebox or worse.

But I think the dodge is a "real" truck and is easy to work on and mod. That's why I have one. I also think it will be on the road longer than a chevy.
