I'm a little unhappy about the fact that the truck has only one regular old-fashioned key slot on the driver's door. Mine froze up once, but fortunately the key fob still worked. I was able to get it working again by shooting a little WD-40 in there and working it around for awhile. But it's still kinda iffy with the key slot. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!
I'm not sure, but I believe there is a factory 'basic' security system, horn honker and light flasher, that they come from the factory with. This is kind of a long shot but I believe there is a sequence that can disable the key and remote switch. I.E. opening the door with the handle through an open window while the truck is locked and 'honked' with the remote. To deactivate, it may be as easy as unhooking the batteries and letting the truck power down for 20 minutes or so. You may have to reset the system with a series of key actions, door lock, cartwheels and arm gyrations to get the system to reset. Give your dealer a call and find out if there is a lockout mechanism if the truck 'thinks' its being tampered with. It kinda sounds like this is what is going on. Also check to make sure the batteries in your remote still have power. Wont help the key issue, but it can help to narrow things down. It is possible, although remote, that low batteries in your remote, will make it think it is being tampered with.

Read this thread. I am almost positive it will be your problem.....door lock electronic solenoid. Particularly Stew130's post #15. You can get the part at your local dealer and fix it yourself fairly easily.

I'm almost positive as well that your problem is exactly what is described in the link TexasCTD left you. I had the same thing happen to me on my 04 1500 and they replaced it under warranty. Push the button once and the driver's door did nothing, but push it again and all the other 3 unlocked. The lock on the door wouldn't pull up and you couldn't pull the handle either to get out.

Same thing happened to mine 4 days after I bought the truck. The dealer knew exactly what it was and had it fixed in about two hours(had to wait on the part).

Mine had the same problem when it was a little over 1 year old. It was a frozen solenoid on the drivers door. Couldn't turn the key in the lock. It seemed like the key would break off. Pulling up the lock plunger, it would just go right back down when you released it. The other doors did unlock with the FOB so it wasn't exactly a crisis. Dealer repaired it no charge under warranty

I had the same problem on my 04. I took it apart, looked everything over and put it back together. I left the door panel off then tested everything by closing the door. Well, long story short the gear portion was misaligned and it was locked up something fierce. Luckily I had left the door panel off as the dealer ended up grinding out the assembly. Just make sure it's back together and positioned right if you do it yourself.

Just a plain ole guy
"shooting a little WD-40 in there"
That was a mistake. WD-40 will collect dirt. Always use a dry lube like graphite. I've seen dry spray silicones you can use now.
