[quote author=Hoss link=board=17;threadid=23160;start=15#msg217498 date=1070462248]My 2000 F-250 and my 2002 F-250 were both made in Mexico. Don't know where my 03 Dodge was made.

If the first digit in your VIN is a "1" your truck was born in the USA, if the first digit is a "3" it was born in Mexico.

If in doubt as to where your truck is made, just look at the door sticker.

Re:Dodge 3500 CTD made in Mexico?

I would question the stereotype that everyone outside the USA hates the USA. I've traveled overseas, and got the same reactions from folks that many who travel here would receive. Some nice people who went out of their way to be nice, some people who were indifferent, some people who didn't like outsiders. Even traveling around the USA you get that. And you typically remember the nasty ones. Your son is an easy target for the less friendly as they want to make a statement or some such. It's important to remember that there is no stereotype. The media shows what's exciting, protests, hate. They don't cover the people who are less vocal, those who support us, those who are just working to get by.

I would also question what you can buy. Dodge is owned by DCX, which really a German company. Ford and GM both build outside of the US. Canada and Mexico being prime examples. GM and Ford are both big in Europe (Opel/Vaxuhall and Ford).

The suppliers build all over the place too and they design all over the place as well. It's not just the people who build the truck, it trickles down to the people who design it, the people who build parts of it. Someone makes a living making taillamp bulbs, headlamp switches, radios, others design those parts...are their jobs less important than the person who screws it all together?

I've got respect for Honda and Toyota. They have invested in US manufacturing and seek out US supplied components. They want that % US content label to be higher. Or at least want US suppliers to have a chance at it.

On the other hand the big-3 are also opening their doors to more suppliers to bid, which means non-US suppliers get a chance as well.

I'm not complaining, it's fair. To supply to anyone you need to deliver the best product at the lowest price, period. Doesn't matter where you're from anymore.

My .02 is that if you want to support the USA, buy the best product out there with the highest US content you can find.

But I'd never buy a inferior product just to "help". IMHO it's not help, it's giving them a crutch, letting them get away with making a lower quality product.
