Dirty Cigarette Lighter?

I just got a new mp3 player that I would like to power using the cigarette lighter since it will turn off automatically when I turn the truck off. The problem is it won't stay on. I have to twist & play with the plug to find the spot where it will stay on but as soon as I hit a bump it cuts off again. I know it is not the mp3 player because the same thing happens when I plug in a gps and they both work fine on the other 12v outlet. Could this be caused by a dirty outlet. I know the previous owner was a smoker and could have used it but it appears pretty clean to me. If I do need to clean it what would be the best thing to use?
Thanks,
Matthew

It is probably wore out, the heat should keep everything burnt off of it when it is being used as a lighter. I guess you could pull it out and spray electrical cleaner in it.

Mine does the same thing. I found if I take the accessory plug apart, there is a fuse in it. If I wipe both ends of the fuse and twist it into it's receptical, it seems to work better for some time(month or two). Then I have to do it again.
