Unhappy Defrost problems.

I have a 2005 2500 quadcab 4x4 with cummins diesel, 6 speed. I noticed that when I turn the Heater control to defrost, all the air just blows out of the front vents and none out top of dash. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what is the fix? I have tried turning control **** in every different setting and nothing works, any ideas would be a big help. Thanks Kevin.

There should be a little button next to the ***** with a snow flake looking symbol on it. Have you tried hitting that?

When my **** is on defrost it always blows out the top vents.

Could be many things (controller, mechanical fastener failure etc. Take it to the dealer. They'll fix you up.

Showing my ignorance of the product lines...Used to be all the controls for AC/heat were vacuum w/ vacuum motors. Are they all electrical/electronic solenoids now?

Dmaxdude,

Do you get any air from the floor vents? I've got an '04 that now only blows air through the panel vents. It doesn't make any difference what the control ***** are set to. BTW, your problem might be related to TSB 24-004-03

Here's the link to the TSB: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003/24-004-03.htm

BTW, let if you get yours fixed b4 me, please let me know what the dealer did to fix it. My warranty is expired .

Crabjoe,
When I put the control to vent and feet I barely get any air out the bottom. I get alot of air through the vents. My truck is going to the shop tomorrow (friday) morning. I will post what they find. Thanks Kevin

Sounds like the heater door is broke, thus not changeing the air to the different vents. Yep sounds like the same problem I had and they fixed it for free, but had to keep it for 2 days. It was the first one they had done this to.

Supergewl,

By chance do you have the the work they did on your truck? Only my panel vents work and my warranty expired a year ago.

Thanks!

Well, I got my truck back. The dealer told me they had to order a new control head. I think that they mean the HVAC control panel? Any way it is supposed to be in middle of next week. So I will repost and let everybody know if it has fixed the problem. They didn't say anything about door being broken. I just hope it takes care of it. Thanks Kevin

Well, I got my truck in finally and had the control head replaced. (This is the ***** for fan, hot 7 cold and floor to defrost controls.) It took them about 15 minutes and it was done. It seems to be working fine now, It goes to defrost when it is in defrost position, and to the floor when you put it to the floor. I don't know if this would be any one else's problem, but it cured mine. Thanks for the reply's. Kevin

Thanks for the replies back folks. I made an appoint to take mine in the dealer told me that the problems they've been seeing are with the control head. Mine being an '04 I hope it's only the control head since I've got to pay for it. Plus I don't like the idea of them taking the dash apart.
