Debating a third gen. Help please
So the wife gave me the green light to get a third gen. I have a 93 d350 and love it but she dosent care to much for it but I'm still gonna keep it. Can someone school me on third gens? I have no clue about them. I'm kinda scared of all the electrical gremlins

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
Do a search here in the 3rd gen forum and you will finds lots of info! Several people have asked the same question.
My 2006 has been very trouble free as far as electrical goes. Unfortunately you never know how lucky you will get if buying used

My 06 has been the best truck I have ever owned, replaced 2 seal`s , rear tail shaft trany, front seal on the rear diff, easy, thats it in 115k so far and I have towed 12k lbs. for half that mileage, just find one that has had the service done on a regular basis. good luck on your search.

My Pick
I think that our 2003 2500 is the perfect truck.
I keep telling my wife that if it is stolen or totaled in a wreck we are truly screwed. It is at 72,500 miles and is pristine. There is no way we could replace it. No emission crap to delete or program out, strong truck and best yet - it's paid for (not that it ever wasn't).
In fact, I have been kinda' secretly looking for an '03 or early '04 QC SB with NV5600 and HO for myself......

A frined of mine has an 06, nice but doesnt ride as nice as i thought it should. Still rather rough, might be the seats though too.
My cousin has an '03, he will be buried in that truck! It was abused on the farm for years and still running like a champ, gets way better mileage than his '10 6.7L too.

My tps quit at 60k miles, cost $169. Now I have ac control and broken damper problem, GGRRRR! I still love the truck but it's had more problems in 70k miles than my 97 had in nearly 100k. Craig

Little over 100k on my early 07, 6speed.
Had since almost new, mostly hiway unloaded miles. Only pulls the boat/sleds.
Can't complain.
Repairs to date:
Bunch of warranty front end work before I bought it at less than 10k mi.
#4injector line
1 steering box, shuttle valve stuck
on it's 3rd steering/hydroboost pump. Not pleased with that, but it may be due to being primarily a commuter vehicle, lotsa lock to lock turns daily in parking lots as well as 3 years of pulling into a side laoder garage 2x a day having to make 0mph lock to lock 6pt turns on a concrete drive. My only "real" gripe with the truck to date.
New clutch @50k mi, due to running a pretty hot tune since almost new.
1 new shifter boot req for leak on top of trans.
Maint items:
Bilstein shocks at about 40k, old ones were good still but they sucked.
Front brake pads at 85k, no exh brake and wife never downshifts thru gears, just kicks it in neutral and uses the brakes.
Steering box stabilizer bracket and new steering stabilizer at 100k after the last PS pump. Old stabilizer was still good and front end feels the same, no change with the additions.
Never had a front end issue, death wobble, loose steering, bad tire wear, etc.
The ball jt's have been "out of spec" on caster for 50k miles, but for some reason this has been the best 4wd truck I've ever owned, solid axle of IFS, for front tire wear. 80k miles of solid highway curves mountain driving and virtually no tire tread cupping at all. Truck has always run on 285s or 33" ATs or mudders.
Never had a check engine light or running quality issue other than a Bullydog caused error twice and the one injector line.
Rarely use any additives or 2stroke in the fuel, maybe once every 10-15tanks of fuel. Stock filtration with Wix gold filters since 10k mi. Fuel filter every oil change.
Trans, t case and axles, fluid change at 20k Amsoil and again here at 100k and they still looked good. In fact didn't even do the front diff at 100k looked new still.
Paint and body has held up perfectly to 5 Colorado West Slope winters driven daily with copious amounts of mag chloride. Truck is garaged and wshed regularly though.
Truck has no rattles, squeaks, cloth seats have held up great, no elect gremlins at all, knock on wood. Steering wheel covering is slowly disintegrating, has been since new, but not terribly.
Friend had an 03 6speed that was good too, but from 80k mi when he bought it to 160k when he sold it, it ate a lift pump, APPS, and a couple injectors, all at about 100k mi. History was unknown on his truck though, from an auction.

i have an 05 model, nice truck,
headlights are poor, i had the bulbs replaced
the o5 models, you can not lockout overdrive, you do have tow/haul.
but it pulls anything i have ever wanted to pull just fine.
runs good, good mpg and mama enjoys the ride, she even likes to drive it.
as long as she is happy, the world is good.

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
Been real happy with my 06 for the past 3.75yrs. The only electrical problem I have had is the MFS (which I removed, cleaned, and it works great now). Don't think that counts as an electrical problem though.
