I got the same phone call a few years back. They called and said that my truck was part of a fleet deal for a rental car co. and that they needed it back (Please!).

After 2 weeks they really can't expect you to give it back, way to stand your ground!

Wait till you start getting the mailers for scheduled maintainence

 

wow 9 months uh they definately deserved to be fired. WIth the way sales people come and go Im surprised he even was there 9 months later in the first place

 

I would tell them to start paddling up the Poo creek... There is no way they should expect you to give it back!! What a joke..

Wow, what an amazing story, it does happen though, and usually it is the salesman that is to blame. The reason it took them two weeks is they probably found out after a month end inventory. By what you mentioned it sounds as though you struck a deal on the right vehicle and somehow they crossed up a stock number, in turn a VIN number. Take all the info you have and get a lawyer, tell the dealer that your lawyer will contact the DMV the state you purchased the truck to report them. I am not sure how it works in NC or Ohio, but they are obligated to provide you registration on a vehicle they released to you and you paid for. They have already lost the money, they would have to refund you what you spent and disclose that the vehicle was used and it would not qualify for special financing rates to the next buyer. As was mentioned in an earlier post a salesman can always get a job at any dealership, except that one. Don't sweat it, if it was they salesman that screwed up, he deserves to be fired. In my State, out of State sales are not illegal, providing a temporary registration is provided to allow the buyer to drive it away.

I think it will all work out just fine. You did nothing wrong. If a salesman can't say to himself, you know, that seems awful cheap for a Laramie I think he deserves to lose his job... Isn't that about a $5k difference?? You were dealing with a bunch of bright ones it sounds like...

I can promise the threat to report the truck stolen would have gotten him a SERIOUS talkin' to!

 

Back in the 80's had the samething but I bought a USED 4 year old Bronco (could not afford and new one) and after a week and some $700 of adds that could not be removed the dealership calls to say that the Bronco had been sold and all paperwork done 2 days before I bought it and that the customer was coming from a different state to get it and that I had to bring it back. I called and talked to 3 lawyers and all said that it was a mistake (human error) and that I DID need to return it. Will I did return it and the dealership made CUSTOMER SERVICE their business, I drove off the lot with a BRAND NEW BRONCO for the same price that I paid for the 4 year old one and they replaced all the add-ons. I liked doing business with them. Good Luck

 

That's cool. Anyone can screw something up (who hasn't) but at a good dealership those things should be few and far between, and the customer should be taken care of.

In this case, I'd say it's time to talk to a lawyer.

 

Without a doubt. They could be in your driveway right now reposessing the truck. Until you have the correct paper work it is their truck. I'd get an attorney to make sure the paperwork is completed and you own the truck.

 

This deal is going to hinge on if there was a vin or stock number on the credit card deposit and initial agreement. If you put down a deposit on a different truck, all your paperwork is for the different truck, you own a different truck.

 

Ugh - that's why I always check the VIN on the vehicle with the contract paperwork before I drive off the lot.

I hope you get it straightened out. The only thing I think you'd have going for you is a) they picked you up at the darn airport, b) handed you the keys to YOUR truck, and c) didn't pick up on it for over two weeks. I'd really suggest corresponding with them via email or certified mail, just to make sure you have documentation.

Also, do you have a copy of the internet (or whatever) ad still? Does the add state Laramie or SLT? What about the email they sent you with the data for YOUR truck? Does it say Laramie or SLT?

I do this prior to SIGNING any paper work, now days. Especially in California, there is "No cooling off period" after purchasing a vehicle. SO if you sign a contract wiht the wrong VIN you are S.O.L.

 

This doesn't surprise me at all.

When we bought our truck I was actually looking to buy a red one that was shown on their website as being in stock, when we arrived and inquired about it they said it was on a secondary lot and had to get it. I gave him the VIN from the website so he could grab the keys quicker with out having to look up the VIN.

1hr later they return with it.

It was a SB QC 4x4 TRX SLT Auto Flame Red.

They brought back a...

LB QC 4x2 ST 6spd Red.

Me: What? This ain't the truck?

Salesman: Oh ya, this is it.

Me: Really? Its not a SB, not 4x4? Not Auto?

Salesman: Oh? Are you sure? The Vin told me it was these keys.

I ended buying a Black one, which they screwed up too.

They got mad when I wouldn't sign until I saw the paper with the agreed upon price again, they put in the contract that the truck was 200 more than what I had agreed to.
