Dealership Says" They sold me the wrong Truck"

Long story shortened, I come across this dealership on the internet, their in North Carolina, I'm in Cincinnati. Tell them I'm looking for a 3500 mega cab, dually, diesel, with leather seats. Couldn't find one in stock locally, and the dealer in N.C. states I've got several. After some dickering, we agree on a price, before giving a deposit via credit card, I have them e-mail me the data on the truck along with pictures of my truck! i also inform them, if I come all the way from Cincy to N.C, and quote" you pull a rabbit out of your sleeve, or try and screw me over on some paper work, I'll be livid"!! On no sir we don't operate that way.I'm told! Arriving at the airport, they have someone waiting there for my wife and I. After a 45min. ride back to the dealership, upon pulling into the lot, driver states" there's your truck"! Man " I'm 45 yrs old, and never have been one to get wrapped up, or overly excited about a new vehicle, other than a brand new fire truck I work off of, but this first Dodge of mine was AWESOME in my eyes. Black, 3500 mega cab Laramie dually 4x4 5.9 L ect.. After showing me the vehicle, a test drive, me going over it, paperwork completed, my wife and I are heading North in our new truck.
After a great ride home and two weeks later, I get a call from the dealership asking me to go check my Vin. #'s. Sure enough their not the same as on my paperwork, and contract I signed, and brought back to Ohio. The dealership tells me we have a major problem, they state"" your truck is here on our lot, that I'm in the wrong truck".. I ask, what kind of truck is it? I'm told just like yours only a SLT with cloth interior. I reply, NOOOO my truck is out in the driveway, you guys just have the wrong paper work!! In the mean time, I've already installed stainless nerf bars, gooseneck hitch, brake controller, plus 1500 miles. They inform me they are losing close to $ 8000.00 on the truck, that they can't afford to sell me a truck like mine for what they did. Sorry I say, it's the price we agreed on prior to me flying down there, and it's your mistake. At one time the GM mentioned he might report the truck stolen, that I'd never be able to get tags for it ect...they had lawyers he said, I've got a lawyer i said, ect...ect.. they finally agreed to let me keep the truck. Without going into all the pricing, the worse part of the whole ordeal is, the sales manager who i had spoke to before taking it up the ladder told me, the salesman that sold me the truck, was probably getting fired. Anyhow I'm still in it, and absolutely love it. My 30 day tag runs out today, hope when I get home tomorrow from work, my new tag or paperwork is there

Arrrgg!! What a mess!! Too bad for them I say but you're probably gonna have some lawyer hassle and costs to deal with. They said you got it for 8K below what they could possibly have made a profit on? I hate to be nosey but just how much below sticker did you get this truck for? The average buyer here at DTR seems to be getting these trucks for about 10K below sticker.

I hate to be nosey also, but I am SUPER curious at what you paid for the truck that they are claiming such massive losses over.

What about the paper work they sent to you before you went down there?Laraime or SLT? leather or cloth? A vin mix up is one thing but a slt or laraime is another. I wouldent pay them a dime more let them come and pick it up. Its just a truck you can find another one. Someone had to be aware of something ,either you or the dealer. They did not see that you were picking up a Laraime at SLT pricing,or you would have to have missed that fact as well. This is what the salesman at the dealers call "Put him on the elevator" Make you a crazy deal then make up reasons why it can't happen and up you go!

I actually think this is more of what the salesmen and dealership call a huge mistake... I couldn't imagine they did this deliberately.

I'm really fortunate to have a great local dealer. I did shop for the best price on the internet, then went in to see them. Their price was within pocket change (literally) and they even modified the specs on a truck that was about to be built for inventory to get me exactly what I wanted, faster...

This is not as uncommon as you would think, the only reason I have any doubt about there intensions, is the fact that its an out of state sale.I know new car managers that have these terms, its not just something I made up.Theres a guy going through it right now around here. He got the deal of the day over the phone and when he showed up to get it done, blah blah blah. The stories these dealers give are endless. If its to good to be true, well you know the rest.

Nice win, plain and simple... that salesguy that gets fired can get another sales job tomorrow... based on your story, they messed up plain and simple... if they can't do deals across state lines, they shouldn't... they probably broke some type of Federal trade law by trying to get you to bring the truck back... serious stuff!

wow well thats just ridiculous Took 2 weeks to figure it out I cant picture any way shape matter or form that they are losing $8000 on it. I call bull on that claim. Just because they add $3000 to the price of a laramie they probably pay $300 extra compared to an SLT. If they threatened me to report it stolen I'd have said well ok I'll report you to the FTC and then call the NC state police and department of vehicles and let them know you are screwing up paperwork

this happen to a friend of mine but he had his truck for 9 months and put 35k on it. On the lot there was 2 identical trucks and they gave hime the wrong one. He took the old truck back with worn out tires scratches from the hunting club and they even had to linex the new truck for him and he drove off with a brand new truck for the second time. the salesman got fired
